Although the Cinq à Sept resort collection was designed amid COVID-19, designer Jane Siskin wondered “what lens should we look at it through” to emulate the more celebratory times ahead? Recently, she and her team have been diving into the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s, which led them to their muse of the season: Kate Moss.

Siskin worked in Moss influences delicately (ideas spanned from ’90s silk slips and glammed up rhinestone-fringed suiting to knit sets, sweetened up grungy florals), while folding in playful colors to add youthful optimism.

The look: Unfussy, playful and sweet fashions peppered with moments of edge or glam.

Quote of note: “Kate Moss: On-duty and off-duty,” Siskin said over Zoom. “The idea of how she was pretty, and almost sweet, in editorial, and then so rock ‘n’ roll off-duty. That juxtaposition really spoke to us. It just felt like a really good way to embody what we wanted to do. We also wanted, from a business perspective, things that were wear-now and season-appropriate, because we felt people would definitely be traveling.”

Key looks: A grouping of patchwork fashions, standout as a quilted bomber or tank dress with knit bodice and peek-a-boo cutout in the back; candy-colored, easy frocks (a slip with delicate rhinestone detail in green, a breezy cantaloupe number or powder blue floor-length, easy frock ); sharp suiting in denim (or as short sets in bright, monochromatic colorways); new fuzzy boucle mixed knit sets and a statement, fur-trimmed lilac coat.

The takeaway: Choosing to design a collection based loosely around Moss worked well for the brand; resort continued to push the importance of the brand’s balance between sexy, sweet, edgy and romantic.

In other news, Siskin noted that the brand is planning on an in-person presentation for spring, slated for Sept. 8, during New York Fashion Week.
