Here's the Scoop on the Emmy Awards Red Carpet This Sunday

Red carpet fashion has been practically nonexistent this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but some events have gotten creative with pre-taped segments, Zoom videos, and socially-distanced photo ops, like the MTV VMAs in August and the BET Awards in June. And the Emmy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, are coming up this Sunday, Sept. 20 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, but according to Variety, there will be no red carpet.

But that doesn’t mean there won’t be any stylish outfits at all! Nominees aren’t required to dress up in designer ensembles while they’re on camera, but, pure speculation on my part, I’m sure some will go the glam route with their looks.

“If you want to be in your sweats on your sofa that’s also fine,” Kimmel said. “It will be much more casual, much more fun, as we’re more in it together. It will go where it goes.”

The Emmys are usually filmed in the Microsoft Theater, but it switched to the Staples Center because it’s larger, giving everyone working the event more space for safety precautions. And producers told Variety that they decided to cancel the carpet and the pre-arrivals show in order to focus on the ceremony and the more complex logistics, like dealing with approximately 140 live streams from nominees around the world. Fair.
