H&M has introduced a free service to those in need of a suit for a job interview. The campaign, called ONE/SECOND/SUIT, is aiming to boost people’s confidence when it comes to job searching and interviews.
H&M’s brand-new initiative is the first of its kind on the British high street and enables people to rent a suit for 24 hours.
Customers can take home a single-breasted navy blue jacket, matching trousers, a white shirt, a navy blue tie, and a red handkerchief – all for free.
All shoppers need to due is reserve the suit online and then it will be delivered to their door in a garment bag.
After 24 hours, customers must return the suit to their local store and H&M will take care of the rest, including the washing and the dry-cleaning.
If a customer is late returning the suit, they will be charged £50, but the money will be donated to charity.
Any major damage to the suit will also be paid for as the whole outfit costs £116.94.
H&M has described the scheme as a “conscious decision” and hopes that it will help people make a good first impression in a job interview.
On its website, H&M said: “First impressions open doors. Walk tall into your next job interview with the ONE/SECOND/SUIT.”

The fashion retailer continued: “A suit isn’t an outfit. It’s confidence. A signal to the world and a reminder to yourself you’ve got what it takes.
“Book the suit. We deliver it. You smash the interview. You return the suit. All free. Job done.
“Style the suit your way. Maybe you’ll keep it classic. Maybe you’ll pare it back. However you wear it hold your head up high.”
H&M has also shared its top tips on how to make a good impression in a job interview, including “be early”, “know your interviewer’s name”, and “have an opinion”.
Sara Spännar, Head of Marketing and Communications at H&M, said: “Job interviews can be a nerve-wracking experience, but we believe nothing should hold you back, least of all what you wear.
“The ONE/SECOND/SUIT is ready-to-wear confidence. A signal to the world and a reminder to yourself that you’ve got what it takes.”
Customers can book a suit on the H&M website now.
The scheme will run for a trial period and, if popular, will continue for a more permanent period of time.
Britons have already taken to social media to debate H&M’s new scheme and opinions are divided.
Some were impressed with the initiative. One person wrote: “Such a simple gesture of such great magnitude.”
Another Twitter user said: “Wow this is awesome!!”
However, some people expressed their disdain at the scheme, calling it “old-fashioned”. One person wrote: “This is genuinely nice of them, but the ideas of ‘in person job interviews’ and ‘suits in job interviews’ seem weirdly old fashioned, now.”
Another person said: “Surely it’s time to get rid of the suits at interviews thing.”
One Twitter user noted that the suits available are advertised in the campaign by men only. They said: “What about us ladies?”
