Springwatch presenter Chris Packham has been in a relationship with Charlotte Corney for over a decade. The couple, who live apart, met when the television star visited the zoo she works at on the Isle of Wight.
Talking about her relationship with Chris in a new interview, Charlotte spoke about their first ever encounter.
“Chris and I met professionally when he visited the zoo that I run on the Isle of Wight,” she said.
“He tells me now that he knew that day that I was the one.
“I had no idea of this, and at the time I was with my ex-partner anyway,” Charlotte told Radio Times magazine.
Charlotte has been running Wight Zoo since 2003, following the death of her father.
Four years later, a television show was filmed there and Chris provided the voiceover for the programme.
Following their first meeting, the presenter made a point to return for the launch of the show in order to see Charlotte again.
She said the couple “connected on every level”.
In the interview, which was published ahead of Chris’ documentary Asperger’s and Me, Charlotte opened up about how his diagnosis had affected their relationship.
She said that on occasion he was unable to look her in the eye and often didn’t seem to care how she felt.
She also admitted that his “truthfulness sometimes hurt”.
Chris told Charlotte about his autism five years into their relationship, after she questioned him about it.

She said that despite it being difficult for him to show his emotions she was “certain of his love”.

The couple are working towards living together one day.
Chris is best known for presenting nature show Winterwatch and will be back with the Spring edition of the programme shortly.
He currently hosts the show from his home in the New Forest along with his step-daughter Megan McCubbin.
The 25-year-old is the daughter of Chris’ previous partner Jo.
The former couple dated for over a decade before going their separate ways.
Chris and Megan also co-host an online show – The Self-Isolating Bird Club – which they set up during the first national lockdown.
