Rebekah Vardy made a defiant return to the spotlight last week when she confirmed she would be taking part in the next series of Dancing On Ice.

Announcing the news on Instagram, she wrote, “Looking forward to some fun.”

Now a source close to the 38-year-old WAG has told new! magazine she’s hoping the show will help improve her reputation and bring the public onside amid her ongoing legal battle with Coleen Rooney.

“Rebekah is adamant she wants to clear her name – that’s it,” revealed our insider. “Dancing On Ice is another way to gain popularity. She wants to win favour with everyone. This is like a popularity contest for her.”

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Becky, who will be joining the likes of Faye Brookes, Myleene Klass, Billie Shepherd and Denise Van Outen on the show in January, opened up about her devastation following her fall out with Coleen.

She said, “We tried to sort things out amicably and it just didn’t work. I understand people think it’s ridiculous but what was I meant to do? I need to clear my name.”

Becky – who is married to Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, 33 – added, “It’s just one of the things that has to go through the process unfortunately now.”

She is suing Coleen, 34, for libel over their Wagatha Christie scandal, which erupted a year ago, when Coleen accused Becky’s social media account of leaking stories about her to the press – something Becky denies.

But our source says while bagging a spot on the show is good news for Becky, it’s left Coleen panicking.

“Coleen knows this is going to be a media frenzy and this is not what she wants. It’s going to be in the papers even more,” continued our insider.

“They’re both strong people, but it shows how different they are. Coleen is really worried that she’ll use all this and win popularity by being in the show. It’s going to bring even more attention to the case and is what everyone is going to be asking [Becky about]. She’s worried it’s going to be the Rebekah Vardy show.”

Coleen is also said to be concerned about the effect it will have on her husband Wayne, 34, and their children Kai, 10, Klay, seven, Kit, four, and two-year-old Cass.

“Coleen is worried for her family. It’s going to be so stressful – she’s got to watch Rebekah every Sunday night! It couldn’t get any worse,” added our source.

As Becky’s news was announced last week, Coleen took to Instagram to share a smiley snap of herself with her four sons, as they enjoyed a day at the beach.

She captioned the post with a red love heart emoji.

Meanwhile, Becky, who is mum to Sofia, six, Finlay, three, and 10-month-old Olivia Grace with Jamie, and Megan, 15, and Taylor, 10, from previous relationships, has opened up about how her children feel about her taking to the ice for the ITV show.

“I have shown Taylor one of the headbangers and he just looked at me and said, ‘Mum, there’s no way you can do that. I just won’t let you do that – you’re going to hurt yourself.’ I went, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll be fine’,” she said.

And explaining why she wanted to join the line-up, she added, “I just think I want everyone to laugh at me really.”

It looks like this frosty WAG fall out is about to go glacial.
