Eddie Van Halen dies aged 65 following throat cancer battle
Eddie Van Halen has died aged 65 after a long battle with throat cancer, his family have confirmed.
The guitarist, who co-founded Van Halen, died at St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica on Tuesday with his wife, Janie by his side, along with his son Wolfgang and Alex, his brother.
He had been battling cancer in secret for many years, believing it had been caused by putting his metal guitar picks in his mouth.
TMZ reports that Eddie’s health had declined in the last 72 hours, with doctors discovering the cancer had moved to his brain as well as other organs.
He has also reportedly been in and out of hospital in the past year and recently underwent a round of chemotherapy.
His son Wolfgang said on Twitter: I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning.
