Matthew Wolfenden, 41, and Isabel Hodgins, 27, were reported to have been on set when a “heated situation“ arose while they shot a dramatic waterfall scene in Stockton-on-Tees last week. The actor, who plays David Metcalfe in the soap, and the actress, 27, who plays his on-screen girlfriend Victoria Sugden, put unsubstantiated speculation behind them as they posed for a photo together shared on social media by Matthew’s wife Charley Webb yesterday.

Charley captioned the sweet snap of the pair: “The most annoying humans,” along with a love heart.

Isabel reacted to the photo, shared on Charley’s Instagram Stories, with: “We love you too hun @miss_charleywebb” while Matthew added that he and his co-star are: “BFFS!”

Isabel also shared a photo of Matthew lying on the ground as he played with his pet dog.

Previously, Matthew had been filmed cooking eggs for a family breakfast on Sunday, sharing a clip of himself in the kitchen on Instagram.

He could be seen standing over the hob as he nursed an egg in the pan while his wife and Emmerdale co-star Charley filmed him.

Matthew and Isabel were said to have been present when a “heated situation” broke out while filming a soap scene that involved a dramatic stunt.

A source told The Sun: “It left a lot of those present at the filming feeling uncomfortable. It was a very heated situation.

“Tempers were running very high. It was tense and bosses got to hear about what had gone on very quickly.

“While they were on set a comment was made which unintentionally caused offence, and an argument broke out among some of the cast members.”

The insider added that Emmerdale took the allegations seriously and that Matthew and Isabel did not film scenes while inquiries were made.

The matter was then resolved and no further action was taken. The pair were back on set last week.

The stunt was to help mark ITV’s Super Soap Week last month.

An Emmerdale spokeswoman said: “While we would never comment on individual cases, Emmerdale has robust policies in place to deal with any allegations brought to our attention and take the appropriate steps.

“Neither actor has been suspended from Emmerdale.”

Meanwhile, Matthew shares marital bliss with his co-star Charley after they met on the set of Emmerdale 14 years ago.

Charley joined the long-running show in 2002 as a teenager, playing the role of Cain and Charity’s estranged daughter Debbie Dingle.

Matthew was cast in the role of Eric Pollard’s son David Metcalfe four years later in 2006.

The pair got engaged on Christmas Day in 2009 and married in 2018.

They are parents to Buster, 10, Bowie, four, and Ace, one.

Charley admitted that homeschooling alongside professional commitments had been “extremely stressful” after one fan asked if it was true that she enjoyed teaching her children at home.

Charley typed back: “False, I absolutely do NOT love homeschooling.

“I like the structure it gives the kids but I also find it extremely stressful at times,” she added.
