Fern Britton admits she ‘misses’ TV chef ex-husband Phil Vickery after announcing divorce

Fern Britton has admitted she misses the friendship between her and her ex-husband Phil Vickery, months after they announced their decision to divorce.

The 62 year old TV presenter said she and her TV chef ex Phil, 52, had a “wonderful time” during their marriage as she opened up about their relationship.

Fern told Weekend Magazine: “We had a wonderful time. We were the best of friends. And I miss that friendship.”

She added: “There comes a point when the children are substantially off your hands and you look at each other and wonder where you're going to go from here.”

Fern and Phil were together for 20 years and share daughter Winnie Vickery, 18, together.

Phil is also stepdad to Fern’s three children Harry, 26, Jack, also 26, and Grace, 23, from her previous relationship with Clive Jones.

The TV star admitted she is now happy on her own and does not plan to marry again.

She continued: “I don't want anyone. I can do it by myself. I don't feel lonely. I like my own company. I realised not long ago that I was married, on and off, for 33 years.“

Fern also said she is really looking forward to the next 20 years as she finds herself “joining the army of silver splitters”, a term used to refer to someone who breaks up with their partner in middle age.

It comes after Fern admitted she had felt “very low” in the weeks following her and Phil’s decision to part ways.

“There are times when I’ve been very low,” she said, before adding quickly: “It was a difficult year, but now I’m fine again.”

The author went on to explain how the two are going their separate ways without any animosity towards each other as she said: “Phil and I are both OK. We simply needed to follow our own paths.

“We realised we weren’t having the kind of life we once did. It seemed right to say ‘thank you’ and move on.”

She added: “Phil and I had the greatest fun together and we have the most beautiful daughter together, Winnie. We will always be connected.”

Phil and Fern announced their decision to go their separate ways in a joint statement, which they both posted to their individual Twitter accounts earlier this year.

It read: “After more than 20 happy years together, [we] have decided to go our separate ways. We will always share a great friendship and our lovely children.

“We would appreciate it if our privacy is respected at this time. Thank you for your continued kindness and support.”
