Lewis Hamilton slams celebrities for staying silent amid George Floyd's death

Lewis Hamilton has called out famous people for not speaking up after George Floyd’s death.

The six-time Formula One World champion took to his Instagram story to express his disappointment in the ‘white-dominated’ industry he is in.

He wrote: ‘I see those of you who are staying silent, some of you the biggest of stars yet you stay silent in the midst of injustice.

‘Not a sign from anybody in my industry which of course is a white dominated sport. I’m one of the only people of colour there yet I stand alone.’

Lewis continued: ‘I would have thought by now you would see why this happens and say something about it but you can’t stand alongside us. Just know I know who you are and I see you…’

George, an unarmed black security guard, was killed after police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for over eight minutes.

The victim begged for air and had pleaded: ‘I can’t breathe’ and ‘don’t kill me’ while the four officers ignored his calls.

The officers involved were fired, and Derek was arrested on Friday on suspicion of third-degree murder, meaning he has been accused of killing George without prior intent, but with disregard for his life.

Since his death, celebrities have been speaking out and donating money to various funds set up.

Kevin Hart admitted he is worried for the next generation of black men and Beyonce and Rihanna also took to social media to demand justice.

Meanwhile, Chrissy Teigen has donated $200,000 (£160,000) to help those needing bail money as a result of protesting his death.

The 34-year-old model originally pledged half that amount to the cause, but she doubled the figure in response to a troll who branded those seeking justice ‘rioters and criminals’.

Protests have continued to grow across the US demanding justice, with some occurring in London, Berlin and Toronto.
