Meghan Markle has shared how her son loves to be read to and especially enjoys his mum's picture book The Bench.

The Duchess of Sussex wrote the short children's book after being inspired by the bond between her husband Prince Harry, 36, and their two year old Archie.

Speaking in an interview with NPR Weekend Edition, the 39 year old explained that her eldest child "loves" the title and has a "voracious appetite for books".

The author, whose book recently topped the New York Times Best Seller list, went on to explain: "Constantly when we read him a book he goes 'Again, again again!'. But now the fact that he loves The Bench and we can say 'Mommy wrote this for you' feels amazing."

Meghan previously explained that The Bench originated as a poem she wrote for her other half on Father's Day shortly after his birth back in 2019.

During her interview, which was recorded before her second child, daughter Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, was born, Meghan explained she bought Harry a bench as she "wanted something sentimental and a place for him to have as a bit of a home base with our son."

She went on: "I often find, and especially in this past year, I think so many of us realise how much happens in the quiet.

"In the story I'm observing this love between my husband and our son, and imagining what it will be as they have more shared moments as our son gets older, so from scraping a knee to having a heart broken, whatever it is, that they always reset at this bench and have this moment to bond."

Meghan continued: "It was definitely moments like that, watching them from out of the window and watching (Harry) just, you know, rock him (Archie) to sleep or carry him or, you know…

"Those lived experiences, from my observation, are the things that I infused in this poem.

"It's a love story. It's really just about growing with someone and having this deep connection and this trust so that, be at good times or bad, you know that you had this person.

"I really hope that people can see this as a love story that transcends the story of my family."
