Hayek was born in Mexico in 1966. She was raised in a wealthy family and received an excellent education as a young woman.

She decided to pursue a career in the acting business and when she was in her early twenties, she began acting in telenovelas. Her first starring role was in the series Teresa, which premiered in 1989. Hayek became a star in her home country and began appearing in major film projects.

Not long after her ascent to stardom in Mexico, Hayek moved California in the early nineties. Although Hayek spoke very little English during her early years in the United States, her beauty and talent got her far.

She landed a breakout role in Desperado in 1995. Producers and directors everywhere took notice of Hayek, and she quickly followed up her role in Desperado with parts in Fools Rush In, From Dusk till Dawn, Wild Wild West, and Dogma.

By the early 2000s, Hayek was a huge star and had appeared in everything from romantic comedies to biographical dramas. Hayek has also earned acclaim as a director and businesswoman.

What is Salma Hayek’s skincare routine?

At the age of 53, Hayek easily looks like a woman half her age. While some of this can likely be attributed to genetics, Hayek is also dedicated to a proper skincare and beauty routine. As she revealed in 2019, much of what she learned about beauty comes from her family, including her grandmother, who believed in a stripped-down skincare ritual.

Hayek admitted that she doesn’t cleanse her face in the morning, believing that it’s bad for the skin. She does apply moisturizer every morning and spritzes her face with a freshly-scented rose mist.

As for the specific moisturizer that she prefers, Hayek admitted that she likes to use one from her very own skincare line. Hayek uses other moisturizing agents throughout the week as needed, including a hydrating facial oil and a rejuvenating neck cream. She also makes sure to remove every drop of makeup from her face before going to bed at night.

Clearly, Hayek’s skincare routine is working well. The ageless beauty recently shared a selfie from her pool, and fans couldn’t believe how incredible she looked in the candid snap.

Fans raved about how lovely and natural she looked, and praised her for not giving in to the temptation to Photoshop her pictures, like many other big-name stars. However, going makeup-free isn’t necessarily something new for Hayek.

As she admitted in a previous interview, she sometimes likes to forego cosmetics entirely: “Normally, when you don’t wear makeup, it’s because you’re in a situation where you don’t feel the pressure to look your best. There’s a sense of just being present without needing to impress anyone.”

At an age when many other Hollywood stars are giving in to cosmetic procedures, fillers, and Botox, Hayek clearly remains as comfortable in her skin as she’s ever been, and more confident than ever before.

Salma Hayek is no stranger to defying beauty standards

Hayek’s recent move may have received a lot of attention but she’s not a stranger to shaking things up in the beauty realm. Time over time, Hayek’s interviews have spotlighted her progressive take on beauty and beauty norms.

Hayek famously told the New York Times that she doesn’t bother to color her hair. “It’s my natural color, and it’s my natural white hairs,” she said. “One of the reasons I don’t dye my hair is because I don’t have the patience to sit through it. I don’t want to spend what’s left of my youth pretending I’m younger and then not enjoying life.”

In an op-ed for Marie Claire, Hayek got real about accepting herself. She wrote: “When I was a little girl, kids used to pick on me because I was short, skinny, and really dark from always being in the sun. Later, when I got my curves, I was self-conscious. But on a trip to Europe one summer, I became aware of the power of the color and the curves. I still didn’t think I was beautiful, but when I went to college, the guys liked my personality, which started giving me confidence.”

She’s also tackled weight. “I’m not a skinny girl,” Hayek told More in 2012. “I push it. I’m at the limit of chubbiness at all times, but I’m happy at all times.”

When she was on the cusp of turning 50, the actress kept it real about “losing body confidence,” reports

“Well I am entering my fifties so your body confidence isn’t that good,” she said. “I think it depends on the day, for everybody. There’s some days you say, ‘This is it,’ and you love it. Then there are days when you go, ‘This cannot be it! Is this really it?’ So I think it’s up and down all the time!”
