Strictly Come Dancing star Janette Manrara, 37, has claimed that she was branded “too Latin” to model. The professional dancer, who was born in Miami, Florida, made the shocking claim in an Instagram post, before going on to say that she has learnt to “enjoy” sitting in front of a camera by “embracing” who she is.

I could never model because I was told I was too short, too latin, too loud, too smiley, and then some….

In a post to her 434,000 followers, Janette made a surprising admission.

After wishing her fans a “Happy Saturday,” she wrote: “Here’s a bit of truth for you all. I have always been slightly nervous at photo shoots.”

The behind the scenes snap features the Strictly dancer being attended to by her “glam squad” as she posed in a stunning green jumpsuit.

Janette continued to reveal that although she appears confident, having her picture taken makes her “nervous”.

She wrote: “I can talk and dance in front of a camera all day, every day!

“But having my picture taken has always made me feel nervous.”

The wife of Strictly dancer Aljaz Skorjanec, 31, went on to share how being told that she was “too” much affected her confidence when it came to modelling.

Janette went on: “I could never model because I was told I was too short, too latin, too loud, too smiley, and then some….”

However, despite the comments, the Strictly star revealed that she is now comfortable in front of the camera.

She said: “But I’ve recently learned to really enjoy having my picture taken.

“We come in ALL shapes and sizes, and we are ALL picturesque in one way or another!

“It doesn’t matter if you’re ‘too short, too latin, too loud, too smiley….’ that’s what makes you, YOU!”

Janette went on to encourage her followers to be confident.

“Embrace all of you, and you will see that the most beautiful thing you can be, is yourself!,” she added.

“Confidence is not to be confused with being ‘cocky’. It’s about loving your traits and being proud of them.

“So next time someone takes a photo of you, be proud of what they will be looking at through the lens because no one in this world will EVER be YOU!”

The star went on to thank Freemans for her collaboration and marvelled at the amount of people it took to get her photoshoot-ready.

Early last month the star took to social media to share a big announcement with her fans.

Posting stunning pictures of herself from her campaign, the Strictly star revealed that she will be modelling the fashion collection STAR by Julien Macdonald, marking the designer’s first collaboration with Freemans.

Julien and Janette met when he competed on Strictly back in 2013 and after staying friends, Julien went on to design her wedding gown for her 2017 marriage to Aljaz.
