The Queen and Prince Philip Are Headed to Scotland Next Month

Even royals go on summer vacations, and for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, that means embarking on their annual trip to their Scottish residence, Balmoral Castle. The couple visits the Aberdeenshire estate at the end of every summer, usually for a weeks-long stay. This year, the duo will head out from their current post at Windsor Castle to Balmoral in early August, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson says.

But considering they’re relocating in the midst of a global pandemic, even as lockdown begins to ease in the United Kingdom, the royal pair are still minding their health and safety. “The couple have remained in Windsor for the entire pandemic lockdown and will move to the Aberdeenshire estate following all relevant government guidelines and advice,” the spokesperson adds.

The queen first relocated from London’s Buckingham Palace to Windsor in March, in time for royal Easter celebrations. Though she was due to return to London, she remained in Windsor as many of her summer events were delayed or canceled, per Town & Country. She has kept working, though, delivering an inspiring speech from Windsor Castle and even participating in her first Zoom calls.
