The Real Reason Meghan Markle Won’t Accompany Harry Back To England
A year after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they will be stepping down from their duties in the royal family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may finally be making a return to England to attend to some royal business…. well, Prince Harry, at least.
The Daily Mail reports that preliminary plans are being discussed for the Duke of Sussex to return to England in the summer of 2021 to attend a few family and public events. The plans in question are still up for debate, largely due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. However, sources tell the outlet Markle is “unlikely to accompany her husband” in his return to the UK.
Markle’s relationship with the royal family and the British press has been nothing but rocky since she and Prince Harry wed in 2018. From the drama of Markle’s father telling the press details inside their family feud and reports of strife between Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, to the countless terrible stories to come out about Markle’s time in the royal family, it was only a matter of time until the couple removed themselves from their royal duties to move to California and raise their son, Archie.
So is all the drama the reason the Duchess of Sussex won’t be returning for a visit to the UK?
Royal sources are worried about further family drama
As royal sources reveal possible plans for Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, to visit the UK in the summer of 2021, the Daily Mail reports that his wife Meghan Markle will not be joining him for “personal and practical” reasons.
Given the drama that is constantly swirling around the royal family these days, sources say the decision is actually helpful in keeping the peace at royal engagements and keep the British press from ruining traditional events.
“Her Majesty made very clear when they left the UK that Harry and Meghan were still much loved members of her own family and would be very welcome to attend family events. That still holds true,” said the source to the Daily Mail. “Practically, however, it comes with the need for a certain amount of diplomacy. There is still a great deal of distance between Harry and many family members, particularly his brother.”
Markle’s decision may have another element to it. Given the state of travel restrictions and the coronavirus pandemic, it is unlikely that a mother of a toddler has any interest in hopping on a plane to put herself in the middle of a crazed media frenzy — and who could blame her?
