Premier League clubs are missing more than 100 stars just nine weeks into the season  – with Liverpool and Manchester United worst hit.

Players like Reds' striker Mo Salah and Tottenham right-back Matt Doherty will miss the Prem return following the international break after failing coronavirus tests – but clubs are also reeling from a heavy crock list.

Liverpool have ten players on their absentee list, compared to United's eight.

And the Prem had a new record of SIXTEEN PLAYERS testing positive in its last round of Covid-19 tests.

Ex-Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas says he still considers old boss Jose Mourinho a friend but admitted he has zero contact with 'childhood hero' Pep Guardiola.

The 33-year-old Monaco midfielder, who signed for the Blues in June 2014 from Barcelona after nearly ten years at Arsenal, made the surprising confession during a Catalan radio interview.

Cesc told Catalunya Radio programme Tot Costa: “Jose was the person who inspired me most after leaving Barcelona.

“He said we had been rivals on the pitch but it finished there and he told me about his future plans.

“I prioritised the professional side of things, and today we still write to each other and I consider him to be a friend who helped me a lot when I needed it most.”

Of his ex-Barcelona boss, now at Man City, he said: “With Pep there’s nothing.”

Michael Owen has backed Chelsea to beat Newcastle 2-1 at St James' Park after the international break.

He told BetVictor: “Newcastle appear very inconsistent just now. I was covering their game against Southampton and it was clear that they couldn’t get into any rhythm.

“It will be interesting to see if Callum Wilson can shake-off the hamstring injury that he picked up in that game. He’s been excellent in front of goal for the Magpies, so far.

“I think in terms of the whole season, Newcastle should be fine, but their inconsistency could cost them dearly over the course of a season and as I can only see them finishing around mid-table.

“I originally said I fancied Chelsea to finish third, however, I think that the points total will be lower this year, and that could bring the Blues right into the title mix.

“If they are to achieve that, then they will have to take maximum points from matches such as this. With Timo Werner in such good form, I think he could be amongst the goals in a Chelsea victory.”

Arsenal have been urged to sign Chelsea target Jerome Boateng in order to get the best out of defenders Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba.

Speaking of the Bayern Munich ace, he told Football Insider: “You can never have enough quality and you can never have enough players who have done it at the top level.

“Looking to maybe recruit someone like Jerome Boateng shows where the club is at. Gabriel and Saliba would benefit from having somebody like Boateng at the club.

“I am not sure how long David Luiz will be at the club so Jerome Boateng could be that experienced player who helps others fulfil their potential.

“If you put it out to the Arsenal fan base they will say, ‘Oh he is too old.’ But beggars cannot be choosers and we need experience. He is a serial winner.”

Speaking of Mount, he said: “Having watched him play he has the potential to be one of the best.”

Former Chelsea striker asked to marry his wife just eight months after meeting as his partner Alice Campello opened up on how they met.

Morata met the Italian model and fashion designer in 2016 during his first stint with Juventus.

In an interview with the weekly, Alice, 25, said: “He had seen a picture of me and asked many people if they knew me, to introduce us, but not we had friends in common.

“So he wrote to me (on Instagram). I answered him after a long time and, in the end, we met. When I met him, he struck me because I immediately knew he was very serious.

“For example, two weeks after our first date, he drove eight hours to meet my family, and returned to Turin very late, even though he had to train early the next day. This and a thousand other gestures.”

She continued: “His friends and family had never seen him like this and he kept telling me he wanted to marry me: in the end, he asked me eight months after we started dating.”

Former Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah will miss Liverpool's next three games after testing positive for coronavirus for a second time.

The Reds forward had hoped to get the all clear to travel back to Merseyside today after isolating for a week in Egypt – but a test yesterday showed he was still infected by Covid-19.

That means he has to stay in quarantine in his home country for a further week, ruling him out of Liverpool's clash with Leicester on Sunday and the Champions League match with Atalanta next week.

Premier League regulations mean a player has to isolate for ten days from a positive test before they can train or play again – and the trip to Brighton next weekend is the final day of that period.

That means the earliest Salah can hope to be back in action for Jurgen Klopp's side is when they face Ajax at Anfield on December 1.

Salah and his Egypt team-mate Mohamed Elneny both returned second positive tests having contracted the illness while away on international duty.

Reece James has celebrated his younger sister, Lauren, being called-up by England for the first time.

The Chelsea star, 20, beamed on Instagram as he congratulated his sibling on her debut Lionesses bow.

Reece has established himself as arguably England's No1 right-back – battling Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker for the starting spot.

And now Manchester United star Lauren, 19, is hoping to lead England's women to glory.

Lauren had been called-up for the Lionesses game against Norway on December 1.

However, due to coronavirus, she will be forced to wait for her debut, with the match having since been called off.

On the teenage striker's international call-up, proud brother Reece captioned his snap: “Congratulations @laurennjjames on your first @lionesses call up. Keep working hard. The future is yours.”

Chelsea's Kurt Zouma is the Premier League's best header of a football in the 2020-21 season so far, beating Manchester United captain Harry Maguire.

The Frenchman has won a staggering 96.3 per cent of his aerial duels, according to CIES Football Observatory.

Zouma has won 26 out of his 27 headed battles, easily the best record in the Premier League.

But that success rate of over 96 per cent is also the best in Europe – not just in the 'Big Five' leagues, but the entire continent.

Amongst Premier League players, only Maguire can boast a tally of 90 per cent or more, aside from Zouma.

The Man Utd skipper has won 27 of his 30 aerial battles – a success rate of exactly 90 per cent.

Chelsea are reportedly considering bidding for Jude Bellingham if they fail to sign Declan Rice.

The Blues have been heavily linked with West Ham ace Rice but with the Hammers standing firm on their £80million valuation the West Londoners could move for Borussia Dortmund teen Bellingham, 17, instead.

Senior Chelsea figures are suggesting they sign Bellingham, according to Eurosport.

Bellingham has been a permanent fixture in Dortmund's team since his summer move from Birmingham.

And he has already earned his first England call-up – winning his first cap in the 3-0 friendly win against Ireland last Thursday.

Callum Hudson-Odoi has reflected on Chelsea's chances of winning the title this season.

He told the club website: “We've started really well and we want to maintain that.

“What we're doing well is defensively we're keeping clean sheets and up front we're scoring a lot of goals, which is a good tihng.

“We're not just dependent on our attackers, we're dependent on everyone in the team and we're getting goals from everywhere on the pitch.

“We want to keep building, keep getting goals, keep getting assists and keep working hard as a team and hopefully, you never know, we could win the title as well.”

Chelsea are reportedly set to be without Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic for Saturday's game against Newcastle.

Havertz has been in self-isolation after testing positive for coronavirus at the start of the month.

He has been given the all-clear to return to training, but The Athletic claim he is not fit to play as the illness limited the amount of training he could do at home.

Pulisic is also allegedly facing another week or more on the sidelines as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Premier League clubs are furious at new Government restrictions surrounding team meals.

The Department for Digital, Media and Culture have banned teams eating together while cooped up in hotels around matches.

And the Mail report that PL, as well as EFL, chiefs are attempting to rally against the changes.

Currently, players returning from international duty will have to rely on room service for their meals.

And they will have to eat alone in their rooms until at least December 2, as lockdown again tightens around the country.

Frank Lampard reportedly called Ross Barkley to congratulate him on his promising start to life at Aston Villa.

The midfielder has bagged two goals in five matches to help move Dean Smith's men up to sixth in the table.

He joined the club on a season-long loan deal in the summer after failing to cement his spot in Chelsea's line-up.

According to Eurosport, Lampard has already been in contact with Barkley after being impressed by his performances.

It is stated that Lampard has not ruled out bringing him back into the mix at Chelsea next season.

Olivier Giroud moved on to 44 international goals on his 105th cap last night – almost an identical strike rate to Thierry Henry who managed 51 in 123 for Les Bleus.

And it also ensured Giroud will finish the calendar year as France's top scorer for the fifth time in the last six years – only being pipped in the World Cup-winning 2018.

He's now just seven goals away from Henry's record…

Former Blues goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has urged Kepa Arrizabalaga to be 'strong' after losing his No1 spot.

According to Diario AS, Begovic said: “He has to be strong.

“That's the life of goalkeepers. It's a shame because he's made some very good saves.”

Edouard Mendy is Frank Lampard's first-choice keeper following his move from Rennes in September.

Olivier Giroud fired himself into the shop window with another double for France.

And his goals against Sweden last night mean he is now just seven goals behind Thierry Henry's record tally.

Giroud, 34, let his football do the talking and proved he still has plenty to offer by slamming in a pair in the Nations League clash.

After Viktor Claesson's deflected strike had given the visitors a shock fourth-minute lead at the Stade de France, the veteran forward got his country level 12 minutes later, turning in Marcus Thuram's cross.

And he bagged his second as he met Kylian Mbappe's ball in with a spectacular diving header on the hour mark.

That moved the ex-Arsenal man on to 44 international goals on his 105th cap – almost an identical strike rate to Henry who managed 51 in 123 for Les Bleus.

Jorginho could follow old boss Maurizio Sarri to his next club, according to the midfielder's agent.

The 28-year-old was a favourite of Sarri's during the 61-year-old's Stamford Bridge reign and Joao Santos says the pair could soon link up again.

The maverick boss is now without a club but Santos says his client is keeping tabs on Sarri's next move.

He told Italian outlet Calciomercato: “Jorginho has a personal and professional bond with the coach that is very strong.

“We're waiting to see where Sarri goes, and if it's a big club in Italy, Jorginho could follow him.

“Almost all the Italy players are in Serie A, as it's an important league, but his journey took him to London.

“If Sarri had remained, perhaps he'd have joined Juventus.”

Willian has revealed why he did not join Barcelona before signing for Arsenal this summer.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, the ex-Chelsea star claimed the Spanish side did not put an offer in for him.

The 32-year-old said: “There are always rumours, but I didn't know about any other official offer.

“Indeed, there was a lot of talk about Barcelona for the past few seasons, but I wouldn't have gone there just because they're Barca.

“I wouldn't go to any club without hearing about their targets and what they wanted from me.”

Chelsea players enjoyed a mixed bag of a night in the Nations League.

Olivier Giroud and Matteo Kovacic both scored a brace in their games for France and Croatia respectively.

But Timo Werner was subbed off as Germany were hammered 6-0 by Spain as Manchester City's Ferran Torres hit a hat-trick.

Elsewhere former Blues boss Antonio Conte has revealed how close Chelsea were to bringing in Virgil van Dijk.

The Liverpool defender has transformed the Anfield club but he would've been at Stamford Bridge, according to Conte, if the club could have got the deal over the line following the Italian's 2017 title triumph.

Giroud is considering his Chelsea future after advice from French boss Didier Deschamps, according to reports.

The striker may look for a way out in January as he tries to hold on to a starting space in the national team.

And Ben Chilwell is back in training after his injury scare with England.

The left-back went off with a back spasm during the Three Lions' defeat at Belgium.
