Girl, 8, figures out Zoom hack to sneakily skip online classes for weeks

Ever dreaded a Zoom meeting?

Well, you could try this hack to get out of it. Eight-year-old Sophia from California figured out how she could use technology to skip her online classes.

The youngster conned her parents, her uncle, teachers and Zoom staff when she kept getting locked out of her account.

Only, Sophia wasn’t getting locked out randomly, she kept entering the wrong password on purpose.

Once she made a habit of entering the wrong password up to 20 times and more, the account would get locked and she wouldn’t be allowed to use it for certain time periods.

The sneaky schoolgirl managed to miss classes for weeks as various adults tried to figure out the problem, each time being logged out or locked out.

Mum Kerstin Rollins even had a school teacher come by the house to fix it, but to no avail.

When Zoom support couldn’t help either, Kerstin had no choice but to start homeschooling Sophia.

Sophia’s con almost continued until she was clocked by her mum’s friend.

Oh, Sophia.

Kerstin explained to Metro.co.uk how the whole ruse began.

She said: ‘The first time was an accident but when Sophia realised she could get away with it, she kept at it and enjoyed playing all morning while I helped her little brothers with school.

‘Once my friend caught her logging out of Zoom on purpose, she texted me to let me know. When Sophia got home I told her what I knew and asked her to explain herself.

‘She started crying and told me she had been purposefully logging out and entering the password wrong to get locked out of Zoom.’

Though an impressive endeavour, the con meant Sophia had to be retaught everything she missed.

Kerstin added: ‘I had to spend about four hours going over all the things she missed each day with her.

‘She said she was tired of Zoom and wanted to go to real, in-person school. I was simultaneously sympathetic to her feelings and very upset she lied and made even more work for me and the already stressed out teachers dealing with distanced learning.’

The mum-of-three added: ‘I was absolutely shocked and secretly impressed she had pulled this off, but she definitely received consequences for her naughty choices.’

Sophia’s uncle Mike Piccolo, a software developer and entrepreneur, shared the whole thing on Twitter where it amused many followers.

She is truly a genius.
