Holby City fans blast the BBC for updating the show – after cancelling it
The Holby City fans continue to be angry at the BBC.
This time, it’s because the Holby City opening and closing titles have been updated, which comes two weeks after the BBC announced the show would be going off air.
Last night’s (June 15) episode of the BBC One medical drama saw the titles change for the first time.
The theme still features hospital scenes, but the music is much slower paced than it’s usual up-beat score.
There are still some similarities, but the Holby City audience aren’t pleased things have been changed ahead of the show going off air.
Likening the new piece to Casualty’s theme tune, one Twitter user wrote: ‘Is the new titles #HolbyCity way of trying to get their whole audience into #Casualty before the series finishes? Bad enough the shows cancelled, didn’t need to change the best titles in the business.’’
Another wrote: ‘New @BBCHolbyCity titles for a series that’s getting cancelled in 6 months. Nice one @BBC.’

Did they really just spend money on new titles and a shorter opening theme just before the axe? Just leave it be. #HolbyCity

Yesterday, the BBC responded to the overwhelming number of complaints made on their website about Holby City’s axe, and fans aren’t happy about the response either.
The statement read: ‘We are incredibly proud of Holby City and it’s with great sadness that after 23 years the show will end on screen in March of next year.
We sometimes have to make difficult decisions to make room for new opportunities and, as part of the BBC’s commitment to make more programmes across the UK, we have taken the difficult decision to bring the show to a close in order to reshape the BBC’s drama slate to better reflect, represent and serve all parts of the country.

We would like to thank all the viewers for watching and we will be working with the programme team over the coming months to ensure that Holby goes out on a high.’
The first two paragraphs of this statement also happen to be the exact same as the one that was released initially when the news broke.
Campaigning to save the show hasn’t stopped as fans continue to share and sign a Change.Org UK petition, which is nearing 40,000 signatures.
