Horror moment elderly man rammed into the air by raging bull and then gored

An 82-year-old man was tossed in the air and gored by a bull during a controversial festival in Spain.

The horror incident took place during the Bou en Corda (Bull on a Rope) festivities in Ontinyent, in the Valencia region, on Sunday, December 4.

The man was tossed in the air and against a wall after failing to outrun the bull on the tight streets of the quaint historic town.

People can be heard screaming as the man's limp body then hits the pavement with a thud.

Even still, the bull continues to gore him – until it is pulled away by the rope tied around its neck.

The man was taken to hospital with trauma to the front of his head and his left occipital lobe, as well as a cut to his left hand.

At the time of reporting, he remained in hospital with a guarded prognosis.

Local media described his condition as "serious".

Six people have died during festivities involving bulls in Spain's Valencia region in 2022 alone.

Researcher Rosa Fernandez found that in 2021, 34.7% of the Spanish population supported festivities involving bulls and wanted to keep them, 44.1% were against them and wanted them banned by law, and 21.2% were against them but did not want them banned.

The festival is similar to that of the infamous Pamplona bull run, but differs in that participants try to snare the animal with a rope and bring it into their house.

A 60-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl were also treated for injuries that occurred during the festival over the weekend.
