How forgotten man Ethan Ampadu could be Chelsea's next breakthrough star like Trevoh Chalobah for Thomas Tuchel

ETHAN AMPADU could follow in the footsteps of Trevoh Chalobah by breaking into Thomas Tuchel's first team next season.

The versatile 21-year-old is on loan from Chelsea at Serie A side Venezia, where he has caught the eye with a string of impressive performances.

It's his third loan spell away from Stamford Bridge, the same number of times 22-year-old Chalobah was sent away before earning his place in Tuchel's team at the start of this season.

And being a year behind Chalobah in his career, claim Ampadu could be the next Blues loanee to seize an opportunity in the first team.

Ampadu penned a new three-year deal with the Blues before moving to Serie A, so the Welshman is clearly in Tuchel's long term plans.

He's been a regular for Venezia so far this campaign, making 18 appearances in all competitions as they battle to avoid relegation.

The defensive midfielder, who can also play in the heart of defence or full-back, previously spent time with Sheffield United and RB Leipzig.

Chalobah himself is equally as versatile, and grabbed his chance during Tuchel's first pre-season at the club.

While Ampadu was away on international duty at Euro 2020 with Wales, Chalobah was honing his skills at Chelsea's Cobham training base.

And it was there where he caught Tuchel's eye and convinced the German to keep him on board this season, making his debut in the Super Cup victory over Villarreal.

Ampadu on the other hand returned late from national team duty and departed on loan on deadline day.

Chalobah has played 21 times overall in his breakout season, chipping in with three goals.

So the chance for Ampadu to spend a full pre-season with the Blues could give him the chance to earn his place in Tuchel's immediate plans, as Chalobah did.

Despite having swathes of youngsters out on loan, Chelsea coaches are keeping a keen eye on Ampadu's progress.

He revealed back in November: "They’re always watching the games and giving you feedback. Someone has even managed to come out and watch a game.

"You still get all the feedback because at the end of the day you’re still a Chelsea player even though my focus is on Venice. Everyone wants you to develop and be a better player so you have that help as well.

"My focus is on doing as well as I can with Venezia and seeing where that takes me this summer."
