Carpet stains are a nuisance, as thick fabrics tend to hold on to liquids they absorb. Most people prefer to have them cleaned professionally, but this is often slow and expensive. They can deal with the mess on their own for quicker results.

How to remove coffee stains from your carpet

Coffee stains stick around thanks to tannins, which can easily alter the colour of most materials ranging from teeth to fabric.

Carpets, which are soft and absorbent, will cling onto the liquid immediately.

But whether wet or dry, people should be able to extract spilt coffee from their treasured furniture.

Real Good Coffee Co, a Seattle-based roaster, has included advice on how to rid items of troublesome stains.

Writing in a blog post, they disclosed solutions for removing coffee stains from “almost anything”.

They advise people should work on removing coffee stains as soon as a spill occurs.

But the method will still require more effort compared to clothes or other surfaces.

To clean coffee stains from their carpet, people will need:

  • Water
  • White vinegar
  • Clean paper towels or cloths
  • Soap, detergent, stain remover, or a combination of these items
  • Lemon juice or baking soda

The coffee experts recommend people start running water through a fresh stain.

While most people may feel compelled to scrub it, doing this could damage the material.

Successful application of this method should flush the coffee out in one to two minutes.

Dried on coffee stains can take a little longer to solve.

For dried carpet stains, people should mix the washing up liquid and vinegar.

Mix in two cups of water and pour the solution onto the stained area.

The mixture should sit for five minutes before cleaners flush it out with water.

If the stain remains, people can repeat the process for maximum effect.
