Mauricio Pochettino is the 'right fit' for Man Utd, says club legend Gary Neville as he talks up PSG boss

GARY NEVILLE believes Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino is the 'right fit' for Manchester United.

Pochettino was heavily linked with becoming United boss after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked.

But PSG were insistent on not losing their manager halfway through the season

Ralf Rangnick was instead appointed on an interim basis with an advisory role lined up once a long-term manager is found.

Speaking after United's lacklustre 1-1 draw against relegation candidates Newcastle, Neville said he would like Pochettino to be the next Red Devils manager.

On Monday Night Football, he said: "I think United will get the right manager at the end of the season for the longer term.

“I’d like Pochettino to be the next manager because he’s got experience of the league, I think he would play the right type of football.

“It feels like the moment for him to step up. He’s managing big stars, characters and personalities.

“I’ve always liked him and the way in which he has operated. I think he fits the club, he works with young players as well.

“He gets the best out of players. He’s a good coach. But also I think he works people the right way.

“But he’s got a job at Paris Saint-Germain, and if he does well there, they obviously won’t let him go.”

On last night's draw, Rangnick says his team made a habit of losing the ball in dangerous areas.

And players like Allan Saint-Maximin made them pay on the counter.

The German said: "We didn't play good today, having been down 1-0 after seven minutes we had too many unforced errors, too many giveaways in possession, including the goal.

"That didn't make life any easier for us in this game. It was a massive push for Newcastle. In the first half, we didn’t play good. I’m not happy with the first-half performance.

"In the second half we had to take the risk of changing formation and making two subs. It was better in the second half but still not the kind of level we have to play to control games.

"There were two problems, the unforced errors and the technical errors, which were the wrong decisions in possession, this caused transitional moments from Newcastle, they’re good in this area, the other one [problem] was we didn’t play as aggressive without the ball in counter-pressing, that is a question of physicality. In both areas we were not at the level we should have been."
