Mum mortified after son’s engagement cake arrives looking like ‘a bad rash’

A woman was left mortified after ordering an engagement cake for her son only for it to come looking like something else.

Kathy Whittle, 48, originally bought an ornate white cake for £30 from a local hobby baker to celebrate the big family moment.

She thought a white tiered cake with a design would be perfect to mark the special day.

But when it finally arrived, Kathy, from south London, was stunned to see what it actually looked like, reports MyLondon.

Writing on Facebook, the mum said the baker had decided the cake "would be more fitting for the occasion".

While one described it as like a Strepsil on someone's tongue, another claimed it looked like a "bad rash".

Fortunately, the cake hadn't ruined the big day as the family were just "laughing it off".

She told the publication: "It was meant to be a surprise for the happy couple.

"She said yes, but the cake would have been perfect if she said no.

"They have made it very clear I am not allowed to order the wedding cake."

In the comments on a local Facebook group, the baker said Kathy was offered a 50% refund or a "new cake at a later date".

When contacted by MyLondon, the baker, known as Yummy Mummy Bakes, said: "Kathy paid £30 for a cake that she didn't like.

"Do you expect me to take it back when I do not make a profit and therefore would be out of pocket?"

Kathy added: "I have asked her [the baker] to come and collect the cake, as it is scaring the grandkids."
