My daughter has changed into a girl who drinks and has assaulted me

DEAR DEIDRE: MY daughter has changed from being loving and sweet to an aggressive girl who drinks too much and has assaulted me.

I’m a single mum aged 40. My daughter is 21.

Three years ago she went to her school prom with her then boyfriend, who dumped her. I was glad, as he was bad news. But then recently he came back on the scene.

She moved in with his family, who shout a lot and drink a lot, and now my daughter does too.

She wanted a get-together in our garden for some friends and I agreed, as long as they cleared up.

When I got home, the place was a tip. I asked her friends to leave.

My daughter got upset and shouted in my face and punched me on the chin. I was so shocked.

We’ve made up now but I think it’s all down to her boyfriend and his family.

I don’t like them. It’s painful watching her change before my eyes.

DEIDRE SAYS: Did your daughter have a calm upbringing or could your break-up with her father be the cause of her inner turmoil?

You can’t choose her partners, but tell her the door is always open for her if she decides it’s over.

She should not have assaulted you, but clearly she has realised she overstepped a boundary.
