I am a 71-year-old grandfather and have never seen my daughter so low. She is 41 and divorced.
My granddaughter regularly stays out late or doesn’t come home at all.
My daughter has even contacted the police because her daughter didn’t come home for two nights. The police said there was nothing they could do.
My granddaughter pops home when her mum is out to leave her dirty washing.
Apparently, my granddaughter is old enough to walk out, yet my daughter has parental responsibility until she is 18.
My granddaughter uses her mental health to her advantage because she doesn’t like being told what to do.
DEIDRE SAYS: Your granddaughter is clearly unhappy. When teens act up, it can be because they are sad or fearful.
Perhaps she didn’t get the right support when her parents split up.
Both your daughter and her dad, if he is in her life, should regularly assure her they love her. They need to establish some ground rules. Teens need boundaries and consequences.
Your daughter and granddaughter can find help at familylives.org.uk (0808 800 2222).
My support pack Troubles With Teenagers? will help.
