    36. James happily makes a solo run through the Newcastle defence and has Wan-Bissaka waiting in the wings (the right).

He tries to pick out Rashford in a central position but his cross-come-shot flies towards the goal and is sent behind by Newcastle's keeper.

34.Shelvey blocks a Fernades shot which was hit with some real fire power.

Another decent run from Wan-Bissaka, on the right flank had picked out the Portuguese midfielder on the edge of the Newcastle penalty area.

United look hungry for a second, but so too do Newcastle..

30.Saint-Maximin, on the break again, cuts in from the left and tries to catch De Gea out at his near post.

The United keeper leaps across the goal to shield it, but he collides with the post and is down receiving treatment on his shoulder.

Will Ole have to call upon Henderson?

    26. Saint-Maximin bounces off McTominay, as he races through the central channel.

But it's Wan-Bissaka's pace that catches him out and a sprawling tackle pinches the ball off the Newcastle man.

    24. Despite a turbulent few months on and off the pitch, the Manchester United boss has remained firm in his approach regarding Maguire's inclusion, “if he's fit he starts”.

    23. United are now level thanks to the man with the armband.

Mata has a shot at goal, from just inside the area but it is saved and sent out for a corner. It's the set-piece that results in a goal.

The corner is whipped in by Mata to the centre of the box, where Maguire gets head and shoulders above the defenders, before nodding it low into the far right-hand corner.

    19. Just what the doctor ordered- Manchester United have equalised.

Fernandes, from the top of the box, plays a lovely one-two with Mata who's just inside the box on the left.

The Portuguese midfielder then fires the ball home with his right foot, into the top corner.

But, VAR could well rule Mata offside…

    16. Following an explosive break by Saint-Maximin, Manchester United are soon back on the attack.

It's Rashford who breaks away and has James alongside him offering support.

Instead he cuts in from the left and pushes the ball to his right foot and has a crack, but the shot is just wide of the near post.

    OWN GOAL

In a last-ditch attempt to clear the cross, Shaw ended up gifting Newcastle an early lead.

    NEWCASTLE 1-0 MAN UNITED

    13. The ball falls to Rashford in a decent area, at the top of the box, but his strike is deflected and soars war over the bar.

    Corner to United.

    NEWCASTLE 1-0 MAN UNITED

    12. Manchester United have seen plenty of the ball, despite going behind so early.

They're moving the ball around well, but will need to be creative to break through Newcastle's defence.

    NEWCASTLE 1-0 MAN UNITED

    11. United are right in Newcastle's face on the edge of their box, but Newcastle have closed rank and there's a sea of stripy shirts between United and the goal.

    NEWCASTLE 1-0 MAN UNITED

    9. Wan Bissaka makes some decent headway down the right wing, he slips the ball to Fred at the top of the box who immediately sends it back to him inside the box on the right.

Wan Bissaka looks to square it to Rashford but Fernandez is on hand to clear it.

    8. Lindelof and De Gea are playing the ball around at the back, but Wilson is lurking ready to pounce.

    NEWCASTLE 1-0 MAN UNITED

    6. James runs from the inside-left to central position on the edge of the Newcastle area.

He seems unsure what to do with the ball and in a panic has a shot- it's weak and wide.

    NEWCASTLE 1-0 MAN UNITED

    4. Disastrous start for the visitors, they now seem conscious to hold onto the ball and are playing it conservatively between themselves as they work it down the pitch.

    2. It's an own goal by Luke Shaw, but credit to Newcastle as they exploited United's defence on the counter.

From a Manchester United throw-in, Newcastle intercept it and Shelvey drove into the United half with explosive speed.

He slipped it through to Krafth on the overlap and as he attempted to cross it to Wilson, it was deflected by Shaw into the back of the net, catching De Gea off guard.

All Solskjaer can do is roll his eyes.
