Oh, This? Just a List of the Best Karaoke Songs of All Time
The pressure is on once you’re in the karaoke room. That oddly sticky binder with the laminated pages is staring you down with hundreds of songs to choose from and… you feel like you can’t name a single song you’ve ever heard. It can be hard to think of a good karaoke choice on the spot, which is why the list of the best karaoke songs below should help. Whether you want to channel Celine Dion, dance with Whitney Houston, or scream with Alanis Morissette, here are 20 no-fail hits. “Let’s go, girls!”
“Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” – Shania Twain
Pretty much any Shania song is good for karaoke, but this one has the incredible “Let’s go, girls!” line. Gotta give bonus points for that.
“It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” – Celine Dion
Generally, choosing a song this long is inadvisable. But! This one is so fun to sing along to that if you have a group of people who are all on board—or are very confident by the end of the night—it’s worth it.
“Like a Prayer” – Madonna
“Like a Prayer” follows the same rules as the Celine song, obviously.
“I Wanna Dance With Somebody” – Whitney Houston
Whitney has one of the most impressive singing voices of all time. If you want to attempt one of her songs, use this one. It’s energetic. It gets people dancing. It’s about 1 million times easier than “I Will Always Love You.”
“Juice” – Lizzo
We started out with some karaoke classics, but there are some newer songs that are great for karaoke, too. Lizzo’s “Juice” is just plain happy.
“Before He Cheats” – Carrie Underwood
If you really feel like belting it out—or are participating in some cathartic post-breakup karaoke—Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats” is here for you.
“What’s Up” – 4 Non Blondes
Speaking of belting it out, “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes requires really going for it—or, I should say, screaming at the top of your lungs.
“Shallow” – Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper
“Shallow” is not an easy song for a regular, non-Lady Gaga person to sing. But it is a fun song for a regular, non-Lady Gaga person to attempt.
“Mamma Mia” – ABBA
Most ABBA songs are perfect for sing-alongs, but if you want one everyone will definitely know, “Mamma Mia” is a good choice.
“You Oughta Know” – Alanis Morissette
If you’re looking for something a little more angry. (Or just saw Booksmart.)
“No Scrubs” – TLC
Twenty years later, and still, no one wants a scrub. Timeless.
“Dancing on My Own” – Robyn
If you aren’t so confident about singing, pick this one. No one will pay attention to you because they’ll be too busy dancing.
“Bette Davis Eyes” – Kim Carnes
This is the “Oh my god, that song” choice. It will make at least one person in your group have that reaction.
“Stop” – Spice Girls
There are a lot of Spice Girls songs that work for karaoke, but performing “Stop” means your friends get to do that little dance with the hand motions.
“Islands in the Stream” – Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers
If you need a duet, “Islands in the Stream” will be in the karaoke book wherever you go. Plus, you get to channel Michael Scott and Jim Halpert.
“The Boy Is Mine” – Brandy & Monica
Grab a friend and get to singing/arguing about who the boy belongs to.
“…Baby One More Time” – Britney Spears
Every karaoke session needs some Britney, so why not take it all the way back to the beginning?
“I Just Don’t Know What to Do With Myself” – Dusty Springfield
This one is really just for fans of My Best Friend’s Wedding and one of the most memorable karaoke scenes of all time.
“Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” – Beyoncé
Beyoncé songs are hard to sing, but “Single Ladies” is one of the easier ones since it’s uptempo and everyone will want to join in. (Experts, please go ahead and choose “Halo” at your own risk.)
“Bye Bye Bye” – *NSYNC
At the very least, you’ll make everyone in the room break into that punching the air and waving dance. Plus, it’s a good way to say goodbye to your karaoke night. And to this list. Have fun!
