Padma Lakshmi's Instagram Post Defies Anyone to Remind Her She's Now 50
Top Model host Padma Lakshmi just turned 50 and looks enviably amazing.
Blessed with extraordinary genes that allow the hit cooking competition host to taste rich foods and still look fit and healthy, Lakshmi recently celebrated her milestone year with loved ones, cake, and a bikini!
The beautiful song Padma Lakshmi’s daughter sang for her birthday
The television personality’s daughter, Krishna, 10, penned a tune for her mom’s special day. Posted with pride on Instagram by her mother, the song chronicles Lakshmi’s life and career in under 2 minutes.
With the catchy bridge, “You’re a badass woman/you’re a working machine/you’re a gorgeous goddess/you’re a warrior queen,” Krishna’s ode to her mother efficiently captures Lakshmi’s story. Her separation from her mother at age 2 while her mother left to find work in the United States. The car accident as a teen that almost killed her and her family. Her discovery as a model and work in Europe, and eventually, her television work and books published.
Krishna, with a clear and strong singing voice, did a badass job honoring her mother on her birthday.
Padma Lakshmi just turned 50
As most of us do with each new decade of life, Lakshmi reflected on the time gone by. In an Instagram post with a photo showing off her tone physique, she wrote about the year so far and what’s she’s most grateful for.
“I cannot ask for anything more,” she wrote. “I am truly blessed: a loving and attentive partner, a child that continues to be a miracle every day and work that I am proud of and fully engaged by with people I love.”
“I am today very lucky. But I am also a product of the toil and troubles my younger self endured. And I thank that version of me.”
A reminder that Padma Lakshmi eats for a living
It’s quite impressive that the food writer, at age 50 and paid to eat heavy meals, can still make a bikini look great.
Lakshmi’s work on Top Chef is not for the faint of taste buds. An integral part of the program since 2006, the India-born model is constantly tasting and sampling rich foods steeped in butter, rich sauces, creams, and more.
Sampling meals on the reality competition series means for Lakshmi tasting these foods from several contestants in one sitting. So, she’s careful to keep herself well-hydrated and in shape despite the food frenzy she partakes in.
“I drink a lot of water—three liters a day,” she told Health in 2017. “I can tell by how much I’m peeing. And I eat really healthy, but I’m not talking about calories. I’m talking about nutrition. I eat as many colors as I can. If a salad doesn’t look colorful, it’s not good enough.”
Lakshmi noted that for the season she had just ended at that time, “It was OK. I didn’t gain as much weight as I normally do. [I usually gain] 10, 15 pounds—the maximum I’ve gained is 17. This time I only gained eight, because of a couple of reasons. One, I managed to work out more. I got a personal trainer to come to my hotel room.”
