Princess Anne is the daughter of Queen Elizabeth II, 94, and the sister of Prince Charles, 72. Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, 73, joined the Royal Family in 2005.

Both Camilla and Princess Anne have important roles within the Royal Family.

In 2005, Camilla married Prince Charles, who is currently first in line to the British throne.

The royal women have been family for more than 15 years, but they knew each other before this.

Princess Anne briefly dated Andrew Parker Bowles who – many years later – dated and married Camilla. The pair were married from 1973 to 1995.

While this could have created tension between the women, body language expert Judi James claimed they actually appear to be close friends.

However, Princess Anne may have taken the “slow-thaw route” to building their friendship.

Judi said: “Given their past histories, with Anne having dated Camilla’s ex husband, the relationship between Anne and Camilla might have been difficult.

“History like that would normally create a sense of embarrassment or discomfort from someone in Anne’s position but [in one photo] she looked as though she might be ignoring or cutting Camilla rather than avoiding her, suggesting she is taking the same slow-thaw route to her sister-in-law as her mother.

“But now, the two women seem very tolerant of one another to the point of often looking like old friends.”

The royals have been seen at various events together while in the Royal Family.

On such occasions, they have seemed to get on well and could have a lot in common, Judi continued.

She stated: “Camilla and Anne’s most frequent bouts of body language together suggest they have harvested all the many things they have in common to relax into the role of friends.”

Their friendship signals could be seen soon after Camilla joined the Royal Family.

Commenting on an interaction between the royals in 2007, Judi suggested they looked “relaxed” in each other’s company.

She stated they also appeared to have thawed any possible tension there could have been.

Judi said: “In 2007, Camilla’s popularity with the public was rising and she was proving her worth as a member of the Firm via some tours abroad with Charles.

“In one photo, sitting in the carriage with Anne, Camilla wears a reasonably relaxed-looking smile.

“It’s the pose of the two women laughing together in the line-up that really seems to signal not just a thawing of the frost between them but a growing sense of close friendship between two women who have so much in common.

“This pose isn’t about social smiling, it shows two friends sharing a joke, with both appearing delighted with one another’s company.”

Princess Anne has been a working member of the Royal Family since she was just 18-years-old.

Camilla took on a working role following her wedding to Prince Charles.

Both royals have been seen attending virtual engagements and appearances during the coronavirus crisis.
