Samsung’s latest 4K and 8K TVs get a vital advantage over their rivals

Samsung has announced that its new 8K and 4K Smart TVs have received official verification that they will not damage your eyes when binge-watching. Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a leading safety science company in the U.S., and Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE) in Germany have both verified that various types of lights emitted by QLED TVs pose no photobiological LED hazard to viewers.

Interestingly, Samsung now becomes the first in the TV industry to receive such a certification. Both safety certification institutions, UL and VDE, tested the latest 65Q900T 8K and 65Q90T 4K models – both of which emit the brightest light among Samsung’s 2020 QLED TV lineup – for their blue light, ultraviolet rays and infrared rays.

“While Samsung QLED TVs emit high luminance and brightness, our TVs are designed to protect the eyesight without losing the truly immersive viewing experience,” said Yong Hoon Choi, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

“We are pleased to be recognized by UL and VDE for these efforts and will continue to make the safety of our customers a top priority as we develop our products.”

With Smart TVs getting ever bigger and brighter – this will be good news for viewers worried about what those eye-popping colours are doing to their health.

This latest update comes as Samsung has also announced two other big updates to its range of televisions. From this week, owners of the popular tellies will be able to access a number of wellness apps aimed at keeping you fit and healthy – even when you’re stuck inside the house during this period of lockdown.

Samsung says a total of six apps (four in the UK) will be arriving across the globe with a number of partners joining forces to bring this update to consumers.

The apps come from a number of fitness brands including barre3, Calm, Echelon, Fitplan, Jillian Michaels Fitness and obé Fitness. Together there’s over 5,000 hours of free at-home wellness content to be viewed.

Samsung has also just added Apple Music to all 2018 – 2020 models which means users can listen to over 60 million songs without needing a dedicated speaker.

Apple Music subscribers can also get customised daily recommendations and tune in to the innovative Beats 1 radio station, a global live stream with exclusive shows by artists like Frank Ocean, Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd, DJ Khaled, and Elton John.
