Shaq is sick of Dwight Howard celebrating Lakers title
From one Lakers championship big man to another, Shaquille O’Neal is throwing a flag for excessive celebration.
O’Neal didn’t name names, but he appeared to be talking about Dwight Howard when he slammed certain Lakers for celebrating their recent NBA championship too much.
“You know what I don’t like as a player though? There’s a lot of players on their little Instagram bragging like they were the reason they got the championship,” O’Neal said on “The Big Podcast with Shaq.”
“I ain’t going to say no names. Sit your ass down, you didn’t do nothing. Stop it. … Stop it, front-runner. Bandwagon jumper. Stop it. Don’t be talking to me like you know, player. Sit your ass down, stop it. Post one pic and sit your ass down. … You ain’t do nothing.”
Howard has published four Instagram posts about the championship — the first of his career — and also went on Instagram Live the night the Lakers won the title with an impassioned message.
“Everybody out there, don’t ever give up on your dreams,” Howard said. “You can f–king do it, I swear! Just keep fighting.”
To O’Neal, who won four championships (three with the Lakers) and was a three-time NBA Finals MVP, it may have been excessive.
“If you’re a role player, don’t be on the Instagram like you’re a star,” O’Neal said.
The 34-year-old Howard, who signed with the Lakers last summer, averaged 5.8 points and 4.6 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per game during the bubble playoffs. He was most involved in the Western Conference finals, during which he recorded a double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) in a Game 4 win over the Nuggets.
“He played well, he did all right,” O’Neal went on to say. “He didn’t do nothing.”
