Spoilers: Nikau gives Bella a surprising idea in Home and Away

Nikau (Kawakawa Fox-Reo) and Bella (Courtney Miller) have recently been introduced by Ryder (Lukas Radovich), and to his surprise, the two have hit it off more than he could have hoped. In fact, as the pair spend more time together, he begins to feel like a third wheel as the newcomer and his friend bond.

With Colby (Tim Franklin) in hospital after being stabbed in the leg by Douglas (Adam Booth), Dean (Patrick O’Connor) has been left in charge of his friend’s little sister. However, Dean isn’t impressed to find Bella hanging out with two boys at home, and quickly shuts the hangout down. 

This doesn’t stop Nikau and Bella bonding as they play pool and hang out at the caravan park, as they quickly discover they both had fathers with criminal histories who cared deeply for their families. They find similarities in how their families are broken and unconventional and become closer. 

When Bella begins to talk about her struggles at school, stemming from the fact she spent so many years not being educated when she lived with her father, Nikau can empathise with not getting on with it – he was the same. Bella is comforted, and confides in him about how she feels pressure to do well because her brother is working so hard to provide for her. 

The two speak more, and later, Bella goes to find Roo (Georgie Parker) and Maggie (Kestie Morassi) in the Diner. She tells them that she has a clear plan for her future – she doesn’t want to give up on education, but Nikau has helped her see that school may not be the right path for her. Instead, she’s decided to study photography at TAFE. Roo and Maggie are all for it – but now she has to persuade Colby…
