Tottenham considering Philippe Coutinho transfer from Barcelona if they lose wantaway Harry Kane to Man City

TOTTENHAM will consider a surprise move for Barcelona flop Philippe Coutinho if Harry Kane is sold to Man City, according to Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo.

The Kane to Man City saga reached new heights in recent days as the England captain repeatedly failed to report to training – allegedly in an attempt to force through a move to the Premier League champions.

Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy, 59, was said to be 'disappointed' with Kane's actions and the 28-year-old Premier League golden boot winner could face a hefty fine for his actions.

Spurs will reportedly demand an eye-watering £160million fee for Kane and notoriously tough-negotiator Levy will accept not a penny less for his star-striker.

It was reported this morning by the Barcelona-based paper Mundo Deportivo that Spurs could turn to ex-Liverpool star Coutinho as a replacement for Kane, should his dream move to Man City go through.

Coutinho moved to the Spanish giants for a staggering £145m back in 2018, but the 29-year-old Brazilian struggled to establish himself at the Nou Camp and has been deemed surplus to requirements.

The cash-strapped Catalan club has been ordered to make severe cuts to its wage bill in order to comply with LaLiga rules and a number of stars, including Coutinho, could face the axe in a bid to cut expenses.

The playmaker has been regularly linked with a return to the Premier League in recent times, with both Everton and Arsenal also reportedly interested in the player.

It's unclear what sort of fee Barca will demand for their man, but when SunSport reported in May that Everton were considering a move for the Brazilian, his asking price was around the £35m mark.

Coutinho may have to lower his wage demands to secure a move to Spurs, however, as he currently earns a whopping £146,000-a-week and takes home a £7.6million salary.

Spurs have been busy in the transfer market, as they look set to confirm the signing of Atalanta's Argentine centre-back Cristian Romero, 23, for a reported £47m.

The North London club have also confirmed the capture of Spanish winger Bryan Gil, 20, from Sevilla for £25m, with Erik Lamela going the other way.
