Tottenham next manager: Paulo Fonseca odds-on favourite for Spurs appointment after massive price drop overnight

PAULO FONSECA is the odds-on favourite to be appointed Tottenham's next manager.

The Portuguese coach was a double-figure 16/1 yesterday but shortened markedly to 1/5 after a frenzy of activity in the betting market.

It's been over 50 days since Jose Mourinho was relieved of his duties.

During that time Julian Nagelsmann, Erik ten Hag, Maurizio Sarri and Antonio Conte have all occupied the favourite position.

But it's now 48-year-old Fonseca in the driving seat with talks already at the advanced stages.

Fonseca has a good CV having bagged the Portuguese Cup with Braga and the Portuguese Super Cup with Porto.

He then won successive doubles with Shakhtar Donetsk between 2016-2019 before replacing Claudio Ranieri at Roma.

Fonseca guided the Italian heavyweights to a fifth-placed finish during his debut campaign and the Europa League semi-finals in the following season.

But a seventh-placed finish saw him replaced by axed Spurs boss Mourinho.

Another thing in Fonseca's favour is Tottenham's appointment of new sporting director in Fabio Paratici, who is reportedly a big admirer.

No deal has been signed but both parties are reportedly 'confident' about the appointment.

Elsewhere in the market, Ajax's Erik ten Hag is the second-favourite at 11/2 with Mauricio Pochettino further behind at 17/2.

Brighton's Graham Potter, who has also been linked with the vacant position at Everton, is available at 9/1.

Belgium's Roberto Martinez is reportedly seeking a return to club manpgmanet and can be backed at 10s.

Antonio Conte and Gian Piero Gasperini are priced at 11/1 and 14/1 respectively with Nuno Espirito Santo shortening from 50/1 to 16/1 after snubbing Crystal Palace.
