Who Are the Rappers in BTS?

There are seven members in BTS. When it comes to the three rappers of the group, though, these performers couldn’t be more different. Learn more about J-Hope, RM, Suga, and their music here.

J-Hope, the artist behind ‘Outro: Ego’ off of ‘Map of the Soul: 7’

He’s your hope and you’re his hope. J-Hope, real name Jung Hoseok is one of the rappers in BTS. He performs solo songs like “Outro: Ego” and “Trivia: Just Dance,” as well as award-winning group numbers like “Dynamite” and “Boy With Luv.”

When he’s not performing with BTS, J-Hope often releases music as a solo artist, including his highly successful mixtape, Hope World. When BTS went on a “period of rest and relaxation” during 2019, J-Hope decided to create a song and music video with Becky G, titled “Chicken Noodle Soup.”

J-Hope is also known for his huge heart, especially when it comes to the BTS ARMY. According to Soompi, he’s made donations to help fund the education of low-income students, as well as a recent separate donation to help those impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

RM, the leader of the group and the artist behind ‘Intro: Persona’

Some know him as the “God of Destruction,” others know him as the rapper behind songs like “Intro: Persona” and “Trivia: Love.” RM, real name Kim Namjoon, is one of the BTS rappers, who previously went by the stage name “Rap Monster.”

As one of the members who is fluent in English, RM often acts as the translator and spokesperson for the boy band, especially when they’re overseas. He’s also incredibly smart, with a reported IQ of 148.

Although most of the BTS members have a hand in writing and producing their own music, RM is one of the members with the most writing credits, including for songs like “Boy With Luv,” “Fake Love,” and “Idol.” (Suga and J-Hope also are credited in writing the lyrics and the music for several BTS songs.)

Suga, the artist behind ‘Interlude: Shadow’

Sometimes he’s savage, sometimes he’s sleepy, sometimes he’s super sweet. Min Yoongi, also known by his stage name Suga, is one of the three rappers in BTS. This performer is known for being on the soft-spoken side.

That is when he’s not giving his all while performing songs like “Interlude: Shadow” and “Trivia: Seesaw.” Aside from his work in BTS, Suga releases solo songs under another stage name — Agust D.

He’s put out a number of mixtapes and, recently, a coinciding music video for his song “Daechwita.” The YouTube video, which featured cameos from Jin and Jungkook, currently holds over 150 million views on the platform.

The “Dynamite” music video is now available on YouTube. Music by BTS, including their recently released album, Map of the Soul: 7, is available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, and most major platforms.
