The Simpsons fans unearth old clip that perfectly describes 'horrible' year

https://youtube.com/watch?v=AlB7_ldILLI%3Fversion%3D3%26rel%3D1%26fs%3D1%26autohide%3D2%26showsearch%3D0%26showinfo%3D1%26iv_load_policy%3D1%26wmode%3Dtransparent

Fans of The Simpsons have unearthed an old clip from the series to illustrate how rough 2020 has been – and it really is quite the trip.

While we’ve all been realising just how many moments of history the show appeared to foresee, whether a coincidence or not, now viewers are finding some scenes perfectly riff on our current state.

From season nine, episode 20 episode, The Trouble With Trillions, the characters of the Fox show are gathering to ring in a new year, only to have it scuppered on the final countdown when the dropping ball halts with eight seconds to go.

‘Oh will this horrible year never end?’ Homer cries as punters gather at the town clock.

‘We’ve never lost a year before and I’ll be damned if we’re gonna lose one on my shift,’ Chief Wiggum interrupted, before shooting the ball down to bring in the new year.

One fan unearthed the clip this week to try and illustrate how the world is feeling, having gone through so much this year already – and having it only just cross over into June.

Sharing the clip to Reddit, they wrote: ‘Only halfway there, but very much the feeling across the world.’

And, sure, they have a point – we’ve been going on about 2020 quite a lot, for good reason.

What with the bushfires that ravaged Australia, wiping out a billion animals and thousands of homes, with many lives lost, at the turn of the year, the locust plagues and hurricanes and typhoons that shook nations, with floods in Indonesia. Plus the horrific deaths of 176 when a Ukrainian passenger plane was shot down in Iran.

The celebrity deaths, with that of both the sudden deaths of Kobe Bryant and Caroline Flack shaking their millions of fans to the core before we’d even hit March.

Oh and don’t even get us started on coronavirus – with more than 380,000 people so far dying from Covid-19 and the majority of the UK locked indoors since March to ‘flatten the curve’ (with no end in sight to when we can go back to what used to be normal).

The death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old father who died after a police office knelt on his neck, has also sent shockwaves around the world, kickstarting protests and educating many on the Black Lives Matter movement.

However, one may argue his horrific death could end up being a catalyst for 2020 to bring about immense positive change in society, so we’re going to keep our fingers crossed on that one.

Fans of the Reddit post were a little sceptical of the original message – we’re good like that – as they responded to the clip.

One mused: ‘I doubt 2021 will be a significant step up.’

Hey, you’ve got to have faith, mate.

Another felt the message fell flat as many things we’ve witnessed this year is due to climate change, which isn’t really a ‘2020 thing’ – however they were rebuffed by one user who commented: ‘COVID-19 and police brutality have nothing to do with climate change. If anything, COVID-19 benefited the climate for a while.’

Regardless, we can definitely chalk this up to The Simpsons, yet again, perfectly encapsulating the whole vibe of, well, whatever the heck is happening right now.

Furious Newcastle fans slam club for ‘dereliction of duty’ after charging for season tickets next year – The Sun

NEWCASTLE have been blasted for a “dereliction of duty” by their supporters’ trust after continuing to take season ticket money for next year.

With the Saudi takeover in the hands of the Premier League, owner Mike Ashley has maintained a wall of silence over reimbursing supporters.

Whereas other Prem clubs acted quickly, Magpies supporters have not received refunds for games to be behind closed doors.

And some have even had four direct debit payments taken for next season, despite not knowing if fans can attend.

In a letter written to MD Lee Charnley last week, the Newcastle United Supporters’ Trust demanded confirmation of refunds for this campaign and season ticket payments for next to be paused.

It said: "We understand the club finds itself in a complex situation in light of the prospective sale of the club by the incumbent owner.

"That does not give you a legitimate right to a dereliction of duty to your supporters. Without supporters, Newcastle United does not exist.

"We have previously contacted Newcastle United to express our concerns at the lack of action by Newcastle United to assist its supporters in a time of need during this unprecedented global health and economic crisis.

"You have called on the fans of Newcastle United for support so often over the years and when we called for you to stand by your supporters, you did nothing.

“The majority of clubs have managed to find solutions to these ticketing issues and to offer support to their fans.

“There is no obvious obstacle to Newcastle United doing the same.”

'Jeopardy!' Fans Slam the Game Show For Underpaying Its Contestants

The popular game show Jeopardy! has been around since the 1960s, though it went through a revitalization in the 1980s that turned it into more of what it is today. These days, the show is still the same at its core, and those who come in second and third place don’t win nearly as much money as they might have accumulated through the rounds. Now, some fans are calling for that to change.

‘Jeopardy!’ rewards the first place winner with the most money

Those who watch Jeopardy!certainly know by now that whoever comes in first place wins the earningsthey accumulated for that show. And as the winner continues his or her streak, the money continues to add up.

Former contestants such as Ken Jennings, James Holzhauer, Julia Collins, and Brad Rutter have all accumulated copious amounts of money from the game show, with Jennings and Holzhauer winning more than $2 million each. But for those who finish second and third on the game show, the prize money is far less.

The second and third place winners don’t win as much as we thought

Although the second and third place winners sometimes accumulate a ton of money during the show based on answering high-point-value questions, they don’t walk away with as much as it seems. Actually, the numbers are often much lower. The second place winner earns $2,000, while the third place winner earns $1,000, regardless of the monetary value of the questions the contestants answered. The only contestant who keeps their actual earnings is the first place winner. Now, though, some fans are speaking up.

Fans suggested the consolation prize money is too low for those appearing on the show

Jeopardy! fans often take to Reddit to discuss their thoughts on the show. And though it’s typically positive discussion, a conversation about Jeopardy! earnings prompted some fans to speak out about the payments being unfair — mostly for the third place winner.

“… The $1000 third place wins is often just barely enough, or not enough, to cover your expenses of coming to the show,” one fan posted to Reddit, suggesting that it’s time to increase the prize money for those who place second and third. Others agreed, with one user suggesting that “after taxes” the third place prize almost certainly wouldn’t cover travel expenses.

Fans also debated whether points should convert to dollars the way they do for the first place winner, though one user suggested it might mean that those in second and third place don’t try as hard.

‘Jeopardy!’ is currently on a filming hiatus due to COVID-19

The show took a hiatus in March after COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic, and filming has not resumed. There has been no date announced for when filming will start again, but the show is reportedly taking the California lockdown into account as well as Alex Trebek’s health and how many people it is safe for him to be around. Filming could be on hold until late August, which is the length of time for which California has debated continuing the lockdown. For now, avid watchers can watch the teacher’s competition in the show’s regular time slot each night.

Piers Morgan leaves fans disgusted as he shows off his flashy Aston Martin while they struggle to pay bills after corona – The Sun

PIERS Morgan left his fans disgusted as he showed off his flash Aston Martin while many of them were struggling to pay their bills due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Good Morning Britain host was hit was a barrage of comments describing his post as 'disgusting' and asking if his visit to the west London car wash earlier today was "essential" during the current lockdown.

Posting a picture of the shiny £150,000 vehicle on his social media pages, the presenter wrote: "I never knew how much I’d miss a car wash.

"Thank to the guys @atlanticcarwash for restoring my Aston to its former glory after Lockdown rendered it an unsightly stained blot on vehicular humanity."

Piers added: "It’s a great place just off the Fulham Palace Road. Highly recommend. 👍"

But some were upset by what they felt was the 55-year-old showing off and one said: "Ok for some while others are worried about paying essential bills."

"Is that essential?," said a follower.

One ranted: "People are dying and Piers is washing his aston martin. People in care homes are losing their lives and Piers is driving out for a non essential car wash. Why on earth, when so many lives have been lost, would you do this. It shows the utter contempt you have. You should be sacked and doorstepped without hesitation."

And: "Not sure what to think of that to be fair, lovely car needs looking after yet having a clean car is not important at the moment!"

Another added: "So your putting other people’s lives at risk to get your car wash . Why don’t you do it your self ?"

One wrote: "So many people lost their jobs and can't afford to pay their mortgage bills etc this is disgusting 🤢".

But Piers was quick to explain the reasoning behind the picture and replied: "the car wash guys asked me to do a post to help them get their business back.. sorry if that offends you."

During the Coronavirus pandemic car washes have been allowed to remain open as long as they follow social distancing guidelines.

Automated car washes have remained opened as they do not require any man power.

Hand car washes were closed as non-essential in the first phase of lockdown, but Boris Johnson's roadmap to restore the country back to normal said Brits who cannot work from home can go back to work.

Just recently Piers accused his GMB co-host Susanna Reid of shattering the rear light of his beloved car in the studio car park.

Dr Hilary Jones asked Piers: "Have you found the vandal that vandalised your rear light yet?"

He replied: "No… the rear light got smashed, and I have no idea how it happened other than I park my car next to somebody else's car here… and it's only one other person's car, and it didn't happen at home because I park it next to the pavement."

Susanna shifted in her seat and glanced guiltily to the side, before saying: "I'm very good at three point turns, thank you very much indeed…"

She later wrote in in her Mail column: "I plead not guilty, your honour. Although we have to do a tight three-point turn when leaving work, I pride myself on my driving skills."

'90 Day Fiance' Fans Have Major Problems With Mary Wallace and Geoffrey Paschel's Date

On 90 Day Fiance, Geoffrey Paschel traveled to Russia with love on his mind, and once he got there, he was smitten enough to propose marriage to Varya Malina. Malina, however, turned Paschel down. She wanted the relationship to continue, she insisted, but it was moving too quickly for her liking. As fans watched the aftermath of that rejection, they followed along while Paschel as he found himself stuck between two women: Malina and Mary Wallace.

While many were rooting for Paschel and Wallace to find the relationship Paschel failed to kindle with Malina, the date Paschel and Wallace went on has many fans cringing. If that encounter is any indication, things aren’t going to go well in this relationship, either.

Geoffrey Paschel was rejected by Varya Malina

After he proposed marriage, Paschel interpreted Malina’s rejection of his proposal as a breakup. He made it clear that the relationship was over in his mind because he had gone to Russia with the clear and communicated intention of moving toward marriage: “I don’t feel like I broke up with her when I left. I felt like she ended the relationship. This was all set. We were gonna go there, potential marriage, we’re gonna get engaged, whatever. And with that said, with her turning me down with a ‘not now,’ I was done.”

It turns out that Malina didn’t see things as quite so concluded. She meant what she said — she’d like to continue seeing Paschel, but she wasn’t quite ready to head down the aisle just yet. As Malina continued to pursue Paschel, he mostly ignored her advances but never explicitly told her things were finished. Meanwhile, he appeared to have moved on to a new relationship.

When Paschel went home to lick his wounds from his Russian rejection, he started a new relationship with Mary Wallace right away. Fans were quick to dub Paschel’s interactions with Wallace as a rebound. The entire love triangle came to a dramatic head when Malina, traveling from Russia to visit Paschel, showed up at his doorstep the morning after Wallace spent the night.

Meanwhile, Paschel is downplaying the time Wallace and he spent together. First, he says that they only went out to dinner to celebrate Wallace’s birthday. He insists it really should not be interpreted as a date in the romantic sense. As to why the woman was still at his house the next morning, Paschel explained that she stayed because she had too much to drink and could not safely drive.

Fans are not impressed by the dinner date

While fans wait to see just what will happen between Paschel, Malina, and Wallace, they’re spending their time analyzing the details of the date for clues. One thing is clear, there are plenty of red flags indicating that Paschel and Wallace are not heading to a blissful relationship.

Fans especially took issue with Wallace’s appearance at the date, claiming that she showed up looking way too casual and in a ridiculous shirt. One Twitter user pointed to Wallace’s “low pony” and “outfit straight out of a community theater production of Godspell” as signs that Wallace wasn’t really trying. Other fans, however, rejected the notion. One called Wallace “embarrassingly thirsty” but pointed to Paschel’s history of domestic violence and legal troubles as a reason that Wallace shouldn’t be after him in the first place.

If what Paschel says is true — he and Wallace were casually celebrating her birthday and not on a date — it might explain her low key appearance for the evening. Fans will have to tune back in to see what happens next as Malina responds to the situation.

Netflix fans horrified by grisly Snowpiercer amputation scene where arm is frozen solid and shattered with hammer – The Sun

SNOWPIERCER left fans squirming in disgust at "brutal" scenes of amputation in the gripping Netflix series.

Those tuning in to the adaptation of the 2013 film and book, starring Jennifer Connolly, might not have been prepared for the typical punishment on the ice age train.

This method of amputation sees train bosses coat a passenger's bare arm in water and then push it through a hole in the train.

Because of the fact there's ice age conditions outside the carriage, it consequently freezes to a crisp.

Yet the pain continues as the person, in this case a devastated mother, sees her arm cleanly amputated courtesy of a hammer blow, with her stomach- curling screams featured on the eerie series trailer.

Viewers of the original Netflix movie were somewhat primed for the disgusting technique, yet newbie Snowpiercer fans took to Twitter in disgust, with one writing: "Damn! Her arm. Omg! That’s brutal!"

Another put: "It's kind of crazy how the movie didn't actually show the arm smashing but the show did."

A third continued: "The arm freezing scene is so horrifying they use it almost verbatim in the new TV show… to much the same effect."

One strong-stomached-viewer commented: "The Frozen Arm Punishment scene is one of my favorite scenes from the Snowpiercer movie.

"The changes they made to the scene made it even more harder to watch."

One mused: "Imagine watching your mother getting her arm frozen and smashed off.

"That little girl must be mortified!!"

Another commented: "Turned her arm to a iceberg.. sheesh #SnowpiercerTV."

A Netflix viewer surmised: "The fact that they poured liquid on the arm to make sure it hurt & froze immediately… these people are savages."

The graphic novel the story originates from became a four part series and was created by Jacques Lob.

It's about a dystopian world in which humans are facing an ice age and they are forced to live on a train made up of 1,001 cars that continually drives around the world.

The conditions across the train vary between first class and lower class passengers.

Unlike the film, there will be extra characters added in this series along with longer story-lines.

Netflix bosses have said of the sci-fi series: "1,001 cars long, the Snowpiercer circles the globe endlessly, divided into classes, with the rich elites up front and impoverished 'tailies' in the back.

"Snowpiercer tells the story of what happens when those who have been oppressed their whole lives decide to resist, rise up, and revolt."

The trailer starts with the telling phrase: "Seven years ago the world ended, now the train is all that's left."

The show focuses heavily on the class differences between those at the front and back of the train.

Daveed Diggs plays the main character, Layton Wells, a character that is stuck at the back of the train and rebels to get to the front.

Daveed was in the original Broadway production of Hamilton.

Jennifer Connelly plays Melanie Cavill, the voice of the train.

She is an upper-class passenger that is intrigued by the lower-class 'tailies'.

She asks him: "What do you see when you look at this train?" as he replies: "I see a fortress to class."

Netflix has not released the episodes in their entirety, with one uploaded every Monday.

The third episode will be added on Monday June 1.

Sussex Fans Continue Campaign to Plant Trees in Meghan Markle & Prince Harry’s Honor

Global conservation has always been a key concern in the work of Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry. So it makes sense that fans of the Sussexes wanted to pay it back by starting a campaign to plant 10,000 trees in the family’s honor.

Donations flooded in when the social media campaign launched in 2019, and work has already begun on planting trees around the world. The original goal of 10,000 has long been surpassed, and now more than 115,000 trees have been planted.

Sharing an update, the @SussexGtForest Twitter account revealed, “Thank you to Toby and the incredible team at Woods Ravine Farm. They’re planting 530 trees in #SussexGreatForest—our largest grove of planted trees yet.” The caption continued, “A once abandoned farm in upstate New York is now the home of #ArchiesWoods.”

As the video shows, the scale of the project is incredibly impressive, and it’s delightful to see the Sussexes inspiring positive change around the world.

The Sussexes previously responded to the initiative in their Instagram Stories and wrote, “Huge thanks to the amazing group of people who have launched the grassroots Sussex Great Forest initiative. What a special surprise!” They continued, “The aim of this project is to plant 10,000 trees around the world by donating globally and planting locally. We are so inspired! Thank you!”
