Ruby Rose Refuses to Reveal Why She Really Left 'Batwoman'

In the history of television, there have been very few instances when a leading actor has left their role on television. Last week, when The CW announced that Ruby Rose would be exiting her groundbreaking role as Kate Kane on Batwoman, jaws dropped.

When Rose was cast in the role back in 2018, fans were delighted that the Arrowverse was going to be introducing an LGBTQ character to the franchise. Even more empowering was Rose’s casting since the Orange Is the New Black actress is openly gay.

Though Batwoman premiered to great reviews in October 2019, and The CW has renewed the series for Season 2, Rose will not be returning to the titular role. In fact, she refuses to address why she left the show.

Things were not working between Ruby Rose and The CW

There was a ton of initial excitement when Rose was first cast in Batwoman. Unfortunately, that soured rather quickly. The Australian actress left social media after being bullied and harassed. Then, early into filming the series, the 34-year-old endured a horrific back injury that required emergency surgery.

This clearly did not get better from there since The CW willingly allowed Rose out of her contract, something the Arroweverse has never done before.

“I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season,” Rose said in a statement. “This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew, and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.”

Filming ‘Batwoman’ was overwhelming to Ruby Rose

In a joint statement, Warner Bros., The CW, and Berlanti Productions thanked Rose for her work but focused on moving forward and finding a new lead. “Warner Bros. Television, The CW and Berlanti Productions thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best,” the statement said. “The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”

Not much else has been said, but rumors have swirled that Rose could not handle Batwoman’s intense filming schedule. “Doing a network drama is one of the hardest acting jobs, and not everyone is well equipped to handle the intensity and long hours involved,” Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva revealed. “I hear Rose, whose most extensive previous TV gig was a nine-episode arc on Orange Is the New Black, was not happy, and the show’s team was not happy to a point where no one could see this going for another season. It was not a good fit, and the studio and the star opted to part ways.”

Ruby Rose refuses to reveal why she really left ‘Batwoman’

Rose has finally broken her silence about her Batwoman exit, but not in the way fans expected. It looks like she’s keeping details about what really went down to herself “for now.”

“It wasn’t an easy decision but those who know, know…I didn’t want to not acknowledge everyone involved and how big this was for TV and for our community,” she wrote in a cryptic Instagram post. “I have stayed silent because that’s my choice for now but know I adore you all. I’m sure next season will be amazing also. Xxx *hangs up cowl and cape.”

If and when Rose does share details, we’re sure they will be quite interesting.

Ruby Rose On Why She Left ‘Batwoman’: "Those Who Know, Know"

Ruby Rose has officially hung up her cowl and cape. A week after the Australian actor revealed that she was stepping down from the CW series, Ruby Rose shared a statement about leaving Batwoman on Instagram, alongside a video of some of her favorite moments from the show’s first season. The clip, which is set to Reece’s "Last Time," appears to be a fan edit of clips from the show, featuring Rose in character as Kate Kane, an heiress and cousin of Bruce Wayne who takes up his mantle in order to protect Gotham City.

"Thank you everyone for coming on this journey," Rose wrote. "If I mentioned everyone it would be 1000 tags.. but Thank you to the cast, crew, producers and studio." The actor also acknowledged that leaving the show "wasn’t an easy decision" for her to make, "but those who know, know." She continued, "I didn’t want to not acknowledge everyone involved and how big this was for TV and for our community. have stayed silent because that’s my choice for now but know I adore you all."

Rose concluded her post by wishing her former collaborators and everyone involved in the show the best of luck on future episodes. "I’m sure next season will be amazing also," she wrote, adding that she is officially "hang[ing] up cowl and cape."

On May 19, Rose announced that she had made the "very difficult decision" to leave Batwoman after one season, and that the role will be recast ahead of the upcoming second season. "This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles," she said in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In a statement of their own, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television thanked Rose for her work and vowed to cast another LGBTQ+ actor in the lead role. (Rose made history as the first openly gay superhero lead when Batwoman premiered in September.) "The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction," their statement read.

Shortly afterwards, a source told TVLine that Rose’s departure "wasn’t 100% her decision," and compared it to a mutual breakup. "She wasn’t happy working on the show, and did that make her fun to work with? No," the source said, explaining that Rose was allegedly struggling with the long hours of filming and relocating to Vancover, Canada, where the show was filmed. "So everyone decided it would be in the best interests of the show, and for all concerned, if they parted ways. It just wasn’t a good fit."

Despite sharing her pride at making history with the role of Kate Kane, Rose has often acknowledged the difficulties of filming Batwoman. In September, she revealed that she had suffered a neck injury while filming a stunt that almost left her paralyzed. "I think in Hollywood it’s sort of like, you’re meant to be young and beautiful and strong and good at all these different things," Rose said on Buzzfeed’s AM to DM show, after sharing a video of a surgery resulting from her injuries. "And it’s kind of like — we’re also human beings." Thus far, Rose’s replacement has yet to be announced.

Yes Way Rose Cofounders Share Memorial Day 2020 Must-Haves

Memorial Day and National Wine Day both fall on Monday, May 25, so if there’s one thing you need to celebrate both, it’s a good bottle of rosé.

Luckily for Us, Yes Way Rosé cofounders Nikki Huganir and Erica Blumenthal, known for creating chic wine bottles and accessories, told Us Weekly the necessities we need to have an epic celebration at home in quarantine.

Cardi B, Jessie James Decker and More Stars Show Off Their Memorial Day Eats

For starters, Blumenthal recommends adding elements of normalcy into your party when it comes to food choices, cocktails and outfits.

“I’ll be grilling a backyard bbq-style dinner indoors and making sure the fridge is stocked with rosé,” she says. “I’ll also be putting on a whole beach look including a swimsuit, sunscreen, cover-up and walking around the house with a can of our rosé pretending I’m doing the real thing.”

Huganir suggests amping up the holiday by DIY-ing your own frozen treat. “Fill an ice cube tray with Yes Way Rosé and let it freeze so it becomes a slushy like consistency. And whenever you need to cool down a glass throw in a rosé ice cube and it does the trick,” she spills.

Memorial Day Weekend Must-Reads

Whether you’re quarantined with your friends, family, roommates or simply planning to have a Zoom or FaceTime party, a fun dress code or group activity is key.

Blumenthal’s pick: “A game of Cards Against Humanity is bound to make everyone laugh!”

As for Huganir, her attire will include Hawaiian style shirts this year. “Creating a theme helps to make a virtual party extra fun. Everyone can dress the part, play some music, and sip an on-theme cocktail like mango coconut frosés,” she explains.

If you’re looking for an effortless approach, Blumenthal thinks drinking straight out of a can will set the mood.

Celebrity Foodies

“To get that feeling of being out with friends I like to drink straight out of a chilled down can. The experience is totally transportive to a day at the beach, being at a baseball game, or concert with friends,” she says.

’90 Day Fiance’: Rose Hopes for Proposal From Reluctant Ed

In a clip from upcoming April 26 episode, the couple is seen having a romantic dinner at their hotel with 23-year-old Rose hoping for the night to end with Ed proposing to her.

AceShowbiz -The upcoming episode of “90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days” season 4 is poised to show a pivotal moment in Ed and Rose’s relationship. In a clip from the April 26 episode, which is obtained by Entertainment Tonight, the couple is seen having a romantic dinner at their hotel with Rose hoping for the night to end with Ed proposing to her.

“I feel happy. I feel love,” the 23-year-old says in confessional. “I want Ed to be a part of my life so, I wish that he proposes to me this night.”

While Rose sounds so sure about their relationship, it is not the case with Ed. Speaking to TLC cameras, the 50-year-old shares, “I mean I think [I want to be with her], but I’m not 100 percent sure.” He admits that the situation with Rose’s sister, who asks him for money, is the one that is holding him back. It seems like Ed still has doubts regarding Rose’s real intention for dating him.

“We’re still exploring that, at this point,” he previously said to Entertainment Tonight when asked if he still feels that Rose is dating him for his money. “At this point [in the show], I still have suspicions.”

That isn’t the only problem the two have to face since Rose is rumored to be actually engaged to another woman now. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ed addressed this swirling rumor about Rose’s supposed engagement to another woman. He admitted he has “no idea” if it’s true and hadn’t even heard of the rumor before, but reminded fans that they should take everything with a grain of salt.

“You know, half the stuff I read online — not like half the stuff, more like 90 percent of the stuff I read online — is not true,” he explained. “It’s people grabbing information, and bits and bits of information, and they’re just creating fake news. They don’t know what’s going on. I know what’s going on in my heart.”

While he didn’t give a straight answer regarding the status of their relationship, Ed said, “I’m happy, that’s all I can tell you.” He went on assuring, “I’m very, very happy.”
