'90 Day Fiancé': Paul Staehle's Mother Gets Real With Her Son and Gives Him Some Solid Life Advice
Paul Staehle and Karine Staehle are finally in the United States, and things are already off to a rocky start. On 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After, Paul is struggling to find a job to support his family. This week, he meets up with his mother, Edna, and she gives him some solid life advice about moving forward.
Paul and Karine struggle to find their footing in the United States
Paul and Karine moved to the United States for a better life for themselves and their son, Pierre. After moving back to Kentucky with no job in place, Paul discovers he’s on his own, since his mother won’t let them live with her. Edna has had to give Paul a dose of reality more than once, and she told him before he moved back that she wouldn’t be letting them live with her.
Paul and Karine have had a difficult start so far. Karine isn’t too keen on their new vehicle, and Paul took her to look at some housing options that were less than ideal for her. Eventually, Paul finds a studio home with enough space for the three of them. Now he just needs to find a job to support his family.
Paul meets up with his mother and fills her in
This week, Paul is still trying to find a job, and he meets up with his mother at a local pet shop. He explains that he needs a few things for his dogs, and Edna asks if that’s why he asked her to meet him there. He replies by saying he does need some help. “You usually do. We talked about this,” his mother remarks.
“Me and Paul have a pretty close relationship,” Edna says to the cameras. “I’ve been with him through thick and thin, but Paul needs to be pushed a little bit to be on his own.” This isn’t the first time Edna has voiced her concerns about having to help Paul. “If Paul can’t even buy his pets food, how is he going to be able to provide for his family?” she continues.
Edna asks Paul if he’s been applying for any jobs lately, and he says he has, but it’s “been difficult” because he has a record. “I didn’t think it would matter, but even though I was convicted with a felony for arson 10 years ago, it’s still difficult to get a job,” Paul tells the cameras. He says even before he can put in the application, he’s hearing the words, “No.”
Starcasm reports that Paul was convicted of second-degree arson and “Burning Personal Property To Defraud Insurer” in 2014. Starcasm also details that according to the Kentucky corrections website: “He is currently being supervised under shock probation, which means that he probably served a brief amount of time in jail before being released. The site also indicates that his supervision is scheduled to end in April of 2020.”
Edna gets real with her son and gives him some solid life advice
Edna tells it like it is, and this time isn’t any different. “I don’t know what you were thinking. I mean, you bring her over here you have to have income, and you have to be able to support them,” Edna says. “I mean, you’ve really got to do something about it.”
Edna also asks about how Karine is feeling, and Paul says she isn’t good. “She feels really alone here and she’s going back and forth doing a lot of 180s,” Paul tells her.
Edna says Karine misses Brazil, considering her family is there, as well as her native language. She also inquires if Paul is happy with Karine and if they are “loving each other.” “Yes, but it’s been difficult,” Paul responds.
Edna doesn’t sugarcoat anything, and basically tells Paul to get it together. “You know, this is why I didn’t want you to get married because you weren’t ready,” Edna tells Paul. “I wouldn’t want to be with somebody that’s…it’s kind of like a deadbeat. It’s kind of like you’re wasting your life. You brought a baby into this world and this is not fair to the baby. So, you need to stand up and start doing right and do by him. Really.”
Paul tells the cameras that he needs to focus on what’s best for Pierre. Edna pays for Paul’s dog food, and she tells the cameras she understands why Karine is having trouble adjusting in the United States.
“I can understand if Karine is having a lot of trouble adjusting here in America because she thought she was coming into something different I think,” Edna explains. “Paul was going to be working and have the job. So, I hope this might be the push Paul needs to start providing and doing what he needs to do with his responsibilities.”
Will Paul be able to land a job and provide for his family financially? Only time will tell.
