GB News hosts on the channel’s Great British Breakfast were stunned by the huge income that Meghan Markle has received for a single podcast episode. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made headlines last year when they signed a podcast deal with streaming giant Spotify. However, in the months that have followed, the couple has only released a single 35-minute Christmas episode, with radio silence since then.

The lack of output has raised questions among royal observers, who have suggested the couple may have taken on too much work too quickly.

Royal expert Phil Dampier pointed out that the couple is “using up a lot of ammunition” but might have “too much on their plate”.

The couple also has a £100m deal with Netflix, while Prince Harry has secured two corporate jobs.

Despite this, the couple are set to go on a 20-week parental break to spend more time with their newborn daughter, Lilibet Diana, and their son, Archie Harrison.

GB News’ Becca Hutson said: “Meghan signed an £18 million deal with Spotify to make these podcasts but it turns out she has only made 35 minutes of content.”

Kirsty Gallacher immediately added: “Are you joking? £18 million.

“It’s just an incredible amount of money for 35 minutes.”

Darren McCaffrey responded: “That’s almost a million quid a minute.

“What is the content? I dread to think.”

Ms Hutson said that the only episode released so far was “airy-fairy” and involved a lot of “words that don’t mean much”.

She added that the controversy was contrasted with news of more work that the Duchess of Cambridge is leading on early childhood years.

It was announced that the Duchess of Cambridge will today unveil “her biggest ever project,” by launching her own landmark Centre for Early Childhood.

The Centre will educate and create awareness around how what happens to children in the first five years of their lives can have a make or break effect on their futures.

Ms Hutson said: “Kate is particularly interested in tackling everything from addiction to mental health problems through early childhood care.

“She quietly gets on with this, I think. It contrasts quite nicely to the story about Meghan.”
