Below Deck Mediterranean has been running for five seasons amassing a dedicated fanbase for the sailing reality show. Its last season aired at the end of 2020, but to current restrictions on travel due to the coronavirus pandemic, a continuation of the show could be in jeopardy. Will the show be back for a sixth season?
Will there be a sixth season?
Currently, Bravo has not renewed Below Deck Mediterranean for a sixth season.
However, the show has remained very popular with fans, with the show already being a spin-off of Bravo’s original Below Deck.
Despite not being renewed yet, it is expected Bravo will release an update of the season soon as the show is quickly reaching its traditional release window of June.
The show could be facing new challenges, however, mainly due to the Coronavirus Pandemic impacting travel and holidays.
The show relies on the availability of tourists and travel, meaning current restrictions by Greece and the EU make it impossible to film another season currently.
This doesn’t mean the show will not receive another season, however, with Adrienne Gang, one of the stars of the show, sharing an update on her Twitter.
She said: “Bc of the charter guests filming on BDM right now in Croatia (& then posting it on their IG stories) we know that Sandy and Malia are on the next season of BDM.
“Bravo really missed the mark on this one. So very disappointed. Proof on the Below Deck @reddit #BelowDeckMed,” (sic) she continued.
Gang tweeted this back in September, which would mean filming was well underway.
The tweet also reveals the next season’s location – Croatia.
Gang was not the only cast member to give an update on the new season, however, with Captain Sandy Yawn also addressing it in the Carolina Coffee Talk podcast.
She revealed: “I’m sure they’re working very hard on it. I’m really not in that process. They include me just when it’s time to go film.”
If filming did take place when Gang suggested, it would mean the show is still on track to hit its usual June release date.
Season five followed the crew of The Wellington, with Captain Sandy Yawn expected to return for the next season.
Many members of the crew left or changed positions in the last season, so expect some new faces next time round.
Hindrigo Lorran, or Kiko, left the ship with Tom Checketts taking over cooking duties.
Hannah Ferrier also departed the show, leaving Christine Drake, or Bugsy, to be the new Chief Stewardess.
It is likely more changes will have taken place before the next season airs, meaning the crew will be very different in season six.
Below Deck Mediterranean is available to watch on Bravo.
