Coronation Street cast Brookside and Emmerdale legend Eithne Browne as prostitute Nicky’s mum

SOAP legend Eithne Browne has been cast as sex worker Nicky Wheatley's mother in Coronation Street, The Sun Online can exclusively reveal.

TV fans will no doubt remember Eithne as Chrissy Rogers in Channel 4 soap Brookside, and most recently as Irene Stocks in Emmerdale.

Now Eithne is swapping the Dales for the Cobbles as The Sun Online can reveal she will arrive on the cobbles next week to warn Daniel Osbourne about her daughter Nicky's past.

Many will remember Eithne from first soap role on Brookeside, playing mum-of-three Chrissy from 1987 to 1991.

However, it wasn't plain sailing for her character as she left in 1991 following the collapse of her marriage to Frank, but briefly returned two years later after his death in a car crash.

In later years, she had fleeting appearances on ITV soap Emmerdale playingCarryl Owens in July 2002 and Fiona Jensen in November 2006.

Then in May 2018, she arrived in the Dales for the third time playing the adoptive mother of Ryan Stocks until January 2019.

Eithne has also appeared in Doctors, Cold Feet and Waterloo Road.

The casting news comes after it was revealed that Nicky is set to be drawn into the sick and manipulative world of Geoff Metcalfe.

The prostitute – who is played by actress Kimberly Hart-Simpson in the ITV soap – has so far avoided the clutches of the abusive villain, but that is all set to change.

Executive producer Iain Macleod told The Sun Online: "We have more for Daniel – we have seen his slightly messed up friendship with Nicky.

"That will go on for some time but not the way you are expecting.

"It draws in Geoff at a certain point which becomes significant for Yasmeen’s trial in a huge way – that’s going to be really big."

The news comes as the soap confirmed it will return to airing six episodes per week from Monday September 14, after cast and crew returned to the set post-lockdown.

Meanwhile, a series of explosive storylines will see David and Shona fighting to rekindle their lost love, Daniel’s confused emotional connection to sex worker Nicky deepen.

There will also be an epic feud between Abi and Debbie and Peter’s involvement in Abi’s dark past bring trouble to his own door with Carla.
