Coronation Street fans will know newcomer Curtis Delamere (played by Sam Retford) has asked Emmer Brooker (Alexandra Mardell) for her hand in marriage on the ITV soap. Looking forward to their big day, the pair decided on a Christmas celebration. However, with Curtis living with an undiagnosed heart condition, will he be able to make it down the altar?

In Friday’s first episode of Coronation Street, Emma and Curtis announced their plans to get married to Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall).

Eager to tie the knot as soon as possible, the lovers decided on having a Christmas wedding.

Later in the Rovers Return, Emma and Curtis made their engagement public, with Emma telling her dad Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) and Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).

But Steve and wife Tracy were not enthralled by the announcement and doubted their commitment to one another as they’ve only known each other for a few months.

Curtis, who made his first appearance in the ITV soap in May, is living with a heart condition that could end his life at any point.

Steve and Emma are well aware of Curtis’ condition as he’s been suffering from sudden collapses recently.

Steve initially rejected Emma’s request to borrow some cash from late son Oliver Battersby’s fund for Curtis to see a private consultant.

However, after seeing how committed the young lovers are to each other, he decided to use some of his personal savings to help Curtis.

Steve asked for Tracy’s permission first, but she didn’t exactly seem too keen on the prospect.

So he decided to hand Emma the money anyway as an early wedding present for the duo.

Back at home, Curtis was starting to feel overwhelmed by the help of Emma’s family.

As the couple shared a tender moment, he announced he’d decided to quit medical school so he could spend every single moment he has left with her.

While fans may find themselves getting caught up in the excitement of a Coronation Street Christmas wedding, they probably should get too ahead of themselves.

Curtis’ illness remains undiagnosed, so there’s a chance he won’t make it to Christmas.

Emma has devoted herself to Curtis and would be left heartbroken if anything was to happen to him.

Steve’s given the duo money to help, but should Curtis be prioritising his health over his relationship?

Paying for a private consultant could save his life, so perhaps it’s wise to be seen before he and Emma plan their big day.

Previously speaking to about Curtis’ condition, actor Sam explained: “It’s a heart condition and beyond that, the doctors are baffled. I suppose I’m no different from anybody else in some ways.

“None of us knows [when we’re going to die]. My heart has stopped a couple of times. In layman’s terms, I was dead.

“I’d love to say there was a bright white light and heavenly choirs but nothing. I don’t recall anything until the medics brought me back around.”

Coronation Street airs Mondays and Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
