Corrie fans rage over Leanne witness protection gaffe as Nick leaves hideout

Certain Coronation Street viewers have branded the latest events in the cobbles as the "worst" witness protection storyline they've ever witnessed.

Leanne Battersby and her son Simon Barlow were placed under witness protection after grassing up local drugs boss Harvey.

Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) went with them as they travelled to a mystery location, abandoning their nearest and dearest in Weatherfield to escape Harvey and his thugs.

Simon (Alex Bain) already fled the hideout once, returning to Weatherfield to visit his poorly dad Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) in hospital.

The trip ended in disaster, with Harvey (Will Mellor) getting close to figuring out where Leanne (Jane Danson) and Nick were hiding.

However, things worsened when Nick's son Sam got caught up in the drama, and was kidnapped by Harvey's cronies in a bid to access Leanne.

Nick returned to the street to save him, and Sam was sent to stay at the hideout with Simon and Leanne, freeing him from Harvey's clutches.

On Wednesday, Nick vowed to stay on the street, only for Leanne to leave the hideout behind, appearing in Gail Platt's house in a tizzy.

She vowed to make things right by bargaining with Harvey, promising to retract her statement at the trial if he leaves her family alone.

Watching from home, certain viewers were left rolling their eyes over the plot, as they pointed out Nick, Leanne and Simon had all been terrible at "hiding" while in the hideout.

One wrote: "Simon, Nick & now Leanne have returned to street. Have they looked up the term hideout?"

"This is the worst witness protection I've ever seen it's more like witless than witness," added a second.

And a third penned: "I feel so sorry for people who are involved with the police and people going into hiding who are watching #Corrie… because everyone is treating the hideout like a free hotel."

"This has to be the least convincing storyline on witness protection ever written. Even in a soap," wrote a fourth, while a fifth weighed in: "The Look You Give, When You Think. This Ridiculous Witness Protection Storyline, Could Not Get Any Worse."

Will it all end in tears, or could Leanne's hare-brained scheme work out?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
