Corrie's Joe Duttine & Sally Carman joke about kicking off romance on set

Corrie stars Joe Duttine and Sally Carman have opened up about their romance – and admitted that it was far from easy when they first got together.

The couple – who play Tim Metcalfe and Abi Franklin on the soap – announced in March that they had got engaged after going into lockdown together.

Appearing on Lorraine to talk about the latest goings on on the iconic Manchester cobbles, the pair spoke about how real-life love managed to bloom.

And, in true honest style, they teased they didn’t even particularly like each other to begin with!

When Lorraine asked if the pair clicked immediately, Sally stumbled before she said: ‘… Slowly.

‘Friends for a while but then we started sharing puddings and that’s when I thought maybe something was on the boil.’

The pair were first connected back in 2018, but their characters rarely share any screen time.

Joe confirmed they had been together for two years last month, sharing a photo to celebrate his anniversary with his other half on 6 June.

Now they share an adorable cockapoo puppy together and live in a flat close to the Manchester set where they film.

Announcing their engagement back in March, they both posted a photo of them toasting their happy news with the stunning emerald ring clear to see.

Joe wrote alongside the picture: ‘She said yes everyone, convid 19 can f**k off…’

‘Convid, covid, whuteva (sic),’ he later added, noticing his mistake.

Sally simply wrote: ‘I did’, alongside a retweet of the picture.

The announcement came shortly after Coronation Street was forced to halt filming due to the coronavirus crisis.

However, with new regulations in place, they are now both back at work.
