Death in Paradise ended its ninth season at the beginning of the year, having already confirmed there would be another series. A release date for the latest series has not yet been revealed by BBC One. Filming on the 10th season has not yet begun though so there could be a delay in the new episodes which are usually shown in January.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Death in Paradise.

Death in Paradise saw the departure of its third detective during season nine.

DI Jack Mooney (played by Ardal O’Hanlon) had found love with Anna (Nina Wadia) but decided instead of travelling with her, he wanted to go back to London with daughter Siobhan (Grace Stone).

This meant there was a vacancy at the Honoré Police force which needed to be filled.

Cue in another British detective DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) who was introduced as the interim.

Neville wasn’t keen on island life from the get-go with unbearable heat and wildlife around every corner.

But as time went on, Neville realised how mundane his life was back in London.

So when he was due to return home, Neville spoke to Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) who reluctantly agreed to give him the job full time.

However, this doesn’t necessarily mean Neville will be living on Saint Marie for too long.

Will actor Ralf Little leave in Death in Paradise season 10?

Actor Little’s three predecessors have all managed to last around three seasons on Death in Paradise.

Baring this history in mind, the drama initially offered a three year contract with Little but his management decided to reduce this.

Speaking to radio presenter Chris Evans on his breakfast show, Little said:

“Yeah so, my agent was like, ‘They’ve requested for three years so that you can signal a contract’.

“Assuming it goes properly, I imply if I’m horrible, they’ll sack me.

“However yeah, they’ve requested for three years and my agent was like, ‘I’ve managed to barter that down in case you don’t need to return’.”

By how long Little’s contract was reduced is not known but there is now a chance he could leave sooner than expected.

But Little has put fans’ minds at ease as he has outlined why he could star on Death in Paradise longer than the other detectives.

He told Evans how “life-wise, I’m strategically in the proper place to do the show”.

Further explaining this on Graham Norton’s BBC Radio 2 show, Little said: “I think truthfully, the big thing is I don’t really have any responsibilities.

“I don’t have any kids to miss, I don’t have any sort of worries back here like that.

“My other half is American, lives in America, works in America anyway, so I’m always over there – so the travel wasn’t a problem.

“So it was kind of perfectly suited.”

DI Mooney left Saint Marie as he wanted to be with his daughter in London.

Meanwhile, his predecessor DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) returned to the UK so he could be with his true love Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton).

The very first detective DI Richard Poole (Ben Miller) however, was murdered with an ice pick.

For now at least, it looks like Little is here to stay but when he does exit, will he have a happy ending or will he go in a similar fashion to DI Poole?

Death in Paradise is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
