With Susanna Reid enjoying a week off from Good Morning Britain hosting duties this week, it was Charlotte Hawkins and Adil Ray who took to the main chairs on Monday morning. Adil has regularly been filling in as co-host in recent weeks as the ITV show still seeks a permanent replacement for Piers Morgan who departed back in March. But just a few minutes into his first appearance with Charlotte as his co-host, the latter was less than impressed as Adil began to mock her about being posh.
The moment came as the two reminisced over the sunny bank holiday weekend just gone.
With the sun finally beaming, GMB’s Charlotte told Adil what she got up to to make the most of the fabulous weather.
“I went out on Saturday night for the first time in however long so that was a nice experience,” she told Adil, before asking: “How was yours?”
But instead of delving into the details of his own weekend, Adil spotted the opportunity to fire a joke at his ITV co-star’s way.
“Who were you with?” Adil began to tease. “Lady, Lady Chatterly of Bovoir and Lady Frovoir of Frovoir-voir?”
Charlotte let out a smile after Adil’s jibe as she hit back: “It’s just not true.
“I don’t know where you’ve got this impression of me.”
Adil clearly found the whole thing hilarious as he let out a laugh before imitating his co-star: “‘I don’t know where you’ve got this impression of me.’”
But Charlotte was now keen to defend herself against Adil’s line of teasing.
“No, because that’s judging me on my accent!” Charlotte snapped at Adil. “Just because I grew up in Sussex I speak like this.”
Not letting Charlotte end the jokes there, Adil continued: “Yeah, and you like classical music, it all sort of fits into place.”
An unimpressed Charlotte hit back once more: “It doesn’t mean I’m like part of the nobility, does it?”

Spotting the pair’s clash early on into Monday’s instalment, reporter Sean Fletcher, who joined them in the studio, decided to jump in.
“You do know you’ve got about two and a half hours to go together?” Sean interjected to try and bring some calm to proceedings.
“I know, I know,” Charlotte replied. “it’s not off to a good start.”
However, Adil stood firm and that the whole thing was in jest as he protested: “It’s a compliment!”
A number of viewers watching at home were similarly unimpressed with the mocking, however, taking to Twitter to make their feelings known.
“I can’t believe Adil made assumptions about Charlotte because of the way she talks where she’s from and the music she listens too,” one fan vented.
A second added: “@gmb Adil Ray is so annoying, thinks winding up Charlotte is fun. I don’t like that sort of humour. God i miss @piersmorgan.”
While a third turned off all together: “Sorry @GMB only 5 minutes in and turning off, Charlotte is great but can’t spend any longer watching adil.”
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am on ITV.
