Great British Bake Off new teaser drops and we're already drooling
A new teaser for this year’s Great British Bake Off has dropped ahead of the show’s launch – and, quite honestly, we can already hear our tummies rumbling.
It was touch and go whether the much-loved competition would grace our screens this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, Channel 4 bosses have done everything in their power to keep the iconic tent filled with the aroma of banana bread and Battenbergs, and we cannot wait.
The short clip, sponsored by the supermarket Aldi, shows a young boy cycling the streets looking for flour, harking back to the days earlier this year when stockpilers had cleared the shelves of the in-demand ingredient (along with all of the toilet roll and the pasta…)
We’re glad to see the baking show has managed put a positive spin on our panic buying, reminding us that even when the world felt like it was ending, all we wanted to do was bake.
After seeing a handful of people expressing how stressed they are at not being able to source a bag of flour, the boy shows up at his nan’s house and greets her with the white stuff.
Zaid Al-Qassab, Channel 4’s chief marketing officer said: ‘This year’s Great British Bake Off campaign highlights that baking is about so much more than sustenance – it’s a gift.
‘The film illustrates the nation’s joyous love of baking inspired by our shared experience of lockdown in a typically Channel 4 way and we hope it gets viewers as excited as we are for the return of our biggest show!’
This year’s series will be sponsored by Aldi – and the store’s marketing director Sean McGinty couldn’t be more excited.
He said: ‘The Great British Bake Off is the perfect partner for Aldi. The “feelgood” show appeals to all ages, and underpins Aldi’s quality positioning and light hearted tone.
‘We’re looking forward to celebrating creativity and innovation in the kitchen with some of the best amateur bakers in the UK!’
This year’s Bake Off will see Matt Lucas join as a new presenter following Sandi Toksvig’s departure.
He will helm the show alongside returning host Noel Fielding, while Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith are back as judges.
It was recently confirmed that filming on the 11th series, which had been delayed because of the pandemic, had wrapped after starting later than usual in July.
The Great British Bake Off is coming soon to Channel 4.
