Green Lantern is of great importance when it comes to the Justice League. He was one of the seven founding members, six of which appear in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Ryan Reynolds played Green Lantern in a movie which was not loved at all by fans – but does his character fit into the new Snyder Cut?
Green Lantern, comic books will be pleased to know, does have a place in the Snyder Cut of Justice League.
In the original comics, alongside Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg, Green Lantern is a founder of the group.
It is the Hal Jordan version of the hero who is part of this founding group, rather than other alter egos, of which there are often many in the superhero game.
In the 2017 Justice League, Green Lantern was seen in flashback, but it was Yalan Gur rather than Hal Jordan.

In this moment, he along with many other beings fought Steppenwolf, conjuring a giant hammer to defeat him, but was killed by Steppenwolf.
When Warner Bros and Joss Whedon edited the final version of the film, there were reportedly other Green Lanterns included, though these were mostly trimmed and indeed removed from the final version.
In December 2020, Zack Snyder confirmed Hal Jordan would appear in his director’s cut of the film, specifically ‘at another location’ than Star Labs.
The exactitudes of his appearance will not be spoiled here, but given Zack’s confirmation, it is clear the part of his original vision which included Hal is being respected.
However, given he does not appear in any of the group shots, it is clear Hal will not be restored to the comic book levels of involvement, which is likely thanks to the failure of the 2011 Green Lantern movie.
In 2011, Ryan Reynolds starred as Hal Jordan in Green Lantern, a film universally panned by critics and movie fans.
Even die-hard DC Comics fans struggled to find a good thing to say about Green Lantern, and Ryan has, until very recently, refused to watch it.
However, in celebration of the arrival of the Snyder Cut, Ryan did the unspeakable: he watched his Green Lantern movie.
Taking to Twitter to live-tweet the event, Ryan said: “Starting GL now. First time ever. Too early to ask for a #SnyderCut of this f***er?
“This protagonist seems reckless but likable… Oh boy. Tragic childhood flashback sequence killing a beloved parent.
“Designed to instill a level of depth and hard fought empathy for our hero. Disney perfected this move.”
After a long watch, and continued tweets, Ryan summarised his experience: “Maybe it’s the Aviation Gin talking, but #GreenLantern was nothing to fear!
“Hundreds of incredible crew and cast members did amazing work — and while it’s not perfect, it ain’t a tragedy. Next time I won’t wait a decade to watch.”
While the sight of Ryan discussing the Snyder Cut may have had fans’ pulses racing, Zack had already rained on their parade, telling The Hollywood Reporter there would be no Reynolds cameo in the movie.
He said: “There was another idea I had for the Green Lantern that wasn’t Ryan.
“I thought that if we had gone down this path [with] Green Lantern, I would’ve had to have Ryan as the additional Lantern. But that’s another story.”
