Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 's biographer Omid Scobie has claimed he has faced "prejudice" from somebody "very senior within the palace."

The 38 year old, who wrote the unauthorised biography on the couple Finding Freedom, made the allegation as he promoted an updated version of the book on This Morning.

Speaking to hosts Rochelle Humes, 32, and Alison Hammond, 46, about Harry and Meghan's interview with Oprah Winfrey, Omid said: "We knew they had contended with issues surrounding race within the institution.

"I, myself, have experienced some prejudice from one or two royal aides in the past so, you can kind of know what Meghan was entering.

"It didn't surprise me but I think for it to mention a family member, I think that was the moment, even for myself, my jaw was on the floor, just like Oprah. It was the same reaction."

Rochelle later pressed on his comment, with Omid saying of the comment aimed at him: "I wouldn't say racist but I would say prejudiced. I am mixed race, there's not many mixed race royal correspondents."

The Saturdays singer asked: "By who?," with Omid responding: "I would not name that person."

She continued: "A family member?," with him answering: "No. Someone very senior within the palace who found it really peculiar that I spoke as well as I do.

"That's pretty much how they said it, actually. You know, I'm used to 'Where are you from? Where are you really from?' kind of stuff.

"But that was a very loaded comment and I'm sure it came not from a nasty place, but it just shows perhaps a level of unawareness within certain quarters of the institution.

"When you think of Meghan, the first bi-racial senior Royal family member, of course she's going to deal with that on a 100 times bigger scale."

Omid also touched on the "recollections may vary" comment made by the Palace in a statement issued after the couple's interview.

He said: "It took a while for that response to come out. The show had aired and it was, like, a day and a half went by.

"We were told by a palace aide it was to gage the mood of the nation before they put pen to paper…and also for people within the family to actually see the show themselves, the interview.

"But I think, as we say in the update of the book, that phrase 'recollections may vary' which, is not The Queen saying that, that's having spoken to people within the family, within the institution, and they're the ones saying, 'Actually, that's not how we remember it'. She's kind of the messenger in this case.

"Unfortunately, those were words that stood out to the couple because it didn't take full ownership of something potentially grotesque that took place, and we've not heard anything from it since.

"Let's not forget the energy that we saw when Meghan was accused of being an office bully, basically. There was a press statement that went out to all the journalists around the world saying there was going to be an internal investigation, there have been off the record updates and briefings since then to various journalists, but if you ask about the racism, the lips are sealed.

"I think that's a missed opportunity because at the very least, the monarchy could have at least condemned racism.

"We heard William saying they're not a racist family, and that's a really respectable response in that moment he was asked but, you know, there have been moments since to perhaps speak up on the matter.

"There was also the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, we didn't hear the Royal family speak up on that too, so, you know, that silence speaks volumes."
