HGTV Is Letting People Vote on Which Shows They Want as Part of the Network's Next Fan Favorite Marathon

HGTV knows you’re spending a lot of time at home lately. Which means it’s the perfect time to binge-watch your favorite home renovation and design shows. The network has been airing marathons of hit shows like Fixer Upper, House Hunters, and Windy City Rehab during the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown. Now, it’s giving viewers the chance to vote on what they’ll watch next.

HGTV’s ‘Fan Favorite Fridays’

In early April, HGTV rolled out “Fan Favorite Fridays.” The initiative gives viewers a say on which of two shows they’d like to see get a Friday marathon on the network. Beginning every Friday, people can vote via social media on the show they’d most like to watch the following week.

“Everyone loves a friendly showdown and “Fan Favorite Fridays” is a perfect diversion for fans that also allows them to show support for the series they most want to watch,” said Jane Latman, president, HGTV in a statement. “If they cast a vote, HGTV will deliver exactly what they want at the end of a long week of work during quarantine — Friday marathons of happy home shows that make it hard for them to leave the couch.”

‘HGTV Design Star’ or ‘Brother vs. Brother: Jonathan vs. Drew’?

So far, fans have voted for marathons of Rock the Block, Flea Market Flip, Nate and Jeremiah: Save My House, and Hawaii Life. For the May 1 marathon, 100 Day Dream Home edged out Windy City Rehab.

Voting for the May 8 marathon opens May 1. Fans will have to choose between HGTV Design Star and Brother vs. Brother: Jonathan vs. Drew. Future matchups include Lakefront Bargain Hunt vs. Mountain Life (May 15); Income Property vs. Property Virgins (May 22); and Texas Flip N Move vs. Tiny Luxury and Tiny House, Big Living (May 29).

HGTV says it has plenty of episodes ready to go, despite the coronavirus shutdown

The coronavirus pandemic has shut down television production around the country. But HGTV is at no risk of running out of content, representatives told Variety. New programs like Celebrity IOU (which premiered April 13) as well as marathons of existing shows will fill the schedule. Plus, the network is getting creative about developing new material.

HGTV is currently casting for a new series called Design at Your Door. The show will feature desperate homeowners who are eager to renovate being coached remotely by one of the network’s stars. The DIYers will get a virtual consultation with an HGTV expert and then receive a package of design elements to help them complete the renovation. The homeowners will record the progress of their project themselves. Interested in participating? You can email your story and photo of the room you want to redo to [email protected] to audition.
