Hilary Duff Reveals "Lizzie McGuire" Reboot Is No Longer Happening
Just when we thought that 2020 was finally gonna let us go, it decided to hit us with one final blow and this time it has to do with the highly anticipated Lizzie McGuire reboot.
Hilary Duff revealed on Instagram that the series will no longer be moving forward, despite talks happening between her and Disney in the hopes of being able to reach an agreement on the series.
“I’ve been so honored to have the character of Lizzie in my life. She has made such a lasting impact on many, including myself. To see the fans’ loyalty and love for her, to this day, means so much to me. I know the efforts and conversations have been everywhere trying to make a reboot work but, sadly and despite everyone’s best efforts, it isn’t going to happen,” she wrote on Instagram. “I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It’s what the character deserves. We can all take a moment to mourn the amazing woman she would have been and the adventures we would have taken with her. I’m very sad, but I promise everyone tried their best and the stars didn’t align. Hey now, this is what 2020s made of.”

Fans had been hoping for an update on the series after filming was paused due to conflicts between Disney and Hilary on the future of the character. Hilary had hoped to make the show much more adult to accurately show Lizzie in her 30s. However, since the show was being made for Disney+, they were hoping to make it more “family friendly.”
Unfortunately for all of us, it looks like this project is gone for now. Along with Hilary, several other original cast members were set to return including Adam Lamberg as Gordo.
While it might not be in the cards right now, we’re still holding out hope for another reboot in the future.
